Interview with Author and Historian Gareth Russell

Interview with Author and Historian Gareth Russell

As the fifth wife of Henry VIII, Katheryn Howard’s story is always told in one of two ways, either she was sexually promiscuous and uneducated, or that she was naive and tragic. On the episode today my guest will show us who the real Katheryn Howard was. I’m Rebecca Larson, host of the Tudors Dynasty Podcast and owner of TudorsDynasty.com. Telling the stories of those who lived centuries before us is what I enjoy doing most. Whether it be a show on one subject or an interview with an author/historian, I’ll bring you the tales of 16th century England. Today, my guest is author and historian, Gareth Russell. Gareth has written several books including Young and Damned and Fair - The Life of Catherine Howard, Fifth Wife of King Henry VIII, as well as his new release, a topic that also interests many of us - The Ship of Dreams: The Sinking of the Titanic and the End of the Edwardian Era. We will talk about both - but be sure to stick around to the end to hear what he answers to fun questions are! Intrigue and Loyalty: Jane Boleyn and the Tudor Royal Household

Intrigue and Loyalty: Jane Boleyn and the Tudor Royal Household

Today, we revisit my conversation with Dr. James Taffe on the endlessly intriguing Jane Boleyn, Lady Rochford. After the execution of her husband, George Boleyn, and sister-in-law Anne in 1536, Jane skillfully navigated the dangerous waters of Tudor politics, securing a place in the households of each successive queen. But her involvement with Queen Katheryn Howard ultimately sealed her fate, leading to their executions in 1542. Jane’s life serves as a cautionary tale of the dangerous dance between power, loyalty, and ambition in the Tudor court.
