#11: New media artist & curator Antonio Roberts on Algorave, funding projects at SXSW 2019

Antonio Roberts is a New Media artist and Curator based in Birmingham, UK. He uses uses technology-driven processes to explore issues surrounding open source software, free culture and collaborative practices. We discuss how he gets funding, in kind support, connecting with artists, building community, and much more.

His art is often created through programming, he is a part of Algorave, where he and other DJs code music live for an audience (see videos HERE). They host specific workshops on how to use software and truly aim to close the gap between the audience and the performer, and educate people on the variety of ways coding can be used. We caught up at SXSW 2019 in Austin, Texas. A special thanks to Crispin Parry of the British Underground and Will Hodgkinson of the Times for introducing me to Algorave, which is how Antonio and I met.
