RANT: Why “I’ve Tried That, it Didn’t Work” is Lying to Yourself [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

In this short yet sweet episode, Rob considers the importance of analysing how long you have tried something, before judging whether or not it was a success, changing your mindset to “I tried that but it didn’t work...yet.” and why focusing on the end result, will distract you on your journey to success. If they planted a seed in a garden would they come back the next day and say it didn’t work if there was no tree? You need to look at how long somebody tried something before you can judge whether it did or didn’t work. If you catch yourself quitting and thinking something doesn’t work after a short period of time, you may want to instead say ‘tried that, didn’t work this time, need to test, tweak and improve.’ Whilst a bit of impatience is pretty good as it allows you to hustle away and get stuff done, patience is vital. Too much impatience will eventually lead you to self-sabotage and squander. Something will organically grow at its own pace, you can become impatient with the process but this will not force it to grow any quicker. All you can do is be persistent, consistent and patient, follow a process and a system and focus on the process rather than the outcome, too much focus on the outcome will distract you from the process. Before you give up on something, check how long you have been working on it. Sometimes it is wise to give up on things that are broken and outdated, if you’ve been trying to grow something for years and years, giving up on this then becomes a strength and not a weakness.
