Paula Radcliffe: MBE Legendary Marathon Athlete on Reinventing Career [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

If you are in need of a bit of motivation under the current circumstances, then listen in to today's episode as Rob is joined by former world record holder, 3 time London marathon winner and MBE, the inspirational Paula Radcliffe. Together they discuss the importance of loving what you do, why surrounding yourself with a strong support network can help you overcome challenges in your life and advice on how to stay in a positive mind frame. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you love what you’re doing then you will invest far more effort, willpower and energy into getting a good result out of it. If you are doing something that you love it is conducive to being successful. It is much easier to invest everything into your career if you love doing it because you are getting rewards, every single day. What you are and what you do everyday defines the person that you are. The accolades and the success you may achieve are only a small part of the person that you are. The person that you are is reflected in how you treat people all the way through the day. We always need a support network of family and friends around us. Having this network of people allows us to be able to keep on working towards what we wish to achieve or when overcoming big challenges. To keep a positive mindset, always try and find the positives rather than the negatives in any tough situation you may come across. Learn to talk through your problems so that if things are getting to you, you can talk things through with the supportive people around you. Finally, focus on what you can do and not what you can’t do, you will never get anywhere by focusing on what you can’t do. Take time to yourself. We often tend to try and run around, getting everything done for others, and only after you have seen to other people’s needs, do you manage to get your own stuff completed. Make sure you make the most out of every day, and take that time for you. Do the things that you want to do and fit them in before it is too late. BEST MOMENTS “When you get up in the morning and think ‘ I am going to be the best person I can be today’, that is defining who you are.” “That’s when I really needed that support network around me. We always need that.” “Every now and again step out of your life and look back in and be sure that you’re proud of the person you are and the way that you are living your life.” ABOUT THE GUEST: Paula Jane Radcliffe, MBE is a former British long-distance runner. She is a three-time winner of the London Marathon (2002, 2003, 2005), three-time New York Marathon champion (2004, 2007, 2008), and 2002 Chicago Marathon winner. She was previously the fastest female marathoner of all time, and held the Women's World Marathon Record with a time of 2:15:25 for 16 years from 2003 to 2019. Her running has earned her a number of accolades including the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, Laureus World Comeback of the Year, IAAF World Athlete of the Year, AIMS World Athlete of the Year (three times) and a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
