Thanks to Liverdad for commissioning this podcast. It's outside of our wheelhouse when it comes to commissions, as this time we were tasked with covering the commissioner's own project, which is a pair of feature-length movies constructed from the first 10 or so episodes of season 3 of The Walking Dead. Turns out there was a lot of fluff in that season because what he came up with after chopping nearly 7 hours off the runtime was not only more exciting but more cohesive as well. Hackers - 25th Anniversary Re-Release
It has been 25 years since Zero Cool and Acid Burn went head to head in the action-hacking thriller, Hackers and 2 years since we recorded our podcast covering the movie so we figured "why not release it again?" Max commissioned one of his beloved films from high school (shout out to the Class of '95!), Hackers. Directed by Iain Softley and starring Jonny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie, Hackers is a mostly ridiculous look into mid-90s hacker culture that's core plot is a rehash of Office Space, which is to say it's a rehash of Superman III. We discuss the film as contemporary computer nerds and as grown men looking back at the naivety of early hacker culture and the weird prescience the move shows.
