75: It Ain't Weak To Speak with Sam Webb

75: It Ain't Weak To Speak with Sam Webb

What if starting one conversation could help you change or save a life? Often, that’s all it takes.

Unfortunately though, this one crucial conversation never happens for too many people because of the stigma around mental health and vulnerability, and because we just don’t know what to say. It’s time to break the stigma and speak up.

Today’s guest has been doing some incredible work surrounding mental health and suicide prevention for almost 6 years now. Sam Webb, previous star on Neighbours, co-founded LIVIN after losing a close mate to suicide and knew that enough was enough and more needed to be done surrounding the stigma of mental health, especially in young men. LIVIN is all about living your life at the top and connecting, supporting and encouraging one another to open up about their feeling and challenges because “It ain’t weak to speak.”

During our chat, Sam and I talked about:

  • His social media presence and the inspiration for the iconic quotes he posts
  • The story of LIVIN
  • Resilience and overcoming grief
  • Various ways to better support and listen to those around you who may be struggling
  • How to be a help giver
  • Warning signs for those who may be struggling
  • ‘Smiling depression’ and how even those who are high function, may be at risk
  • Sam’s self care and daily routine
  • How to improve self-awareness and improve relationships
  • Sam’s acting career and future aspirations

Sam’s challenge for the week: Do something that you’re scared of doing or that you haven’t done previously because you were too worried of what other people might say or think.

You can connect with Sam on instagram @samwebb or on Facebook @samwebbau. You can find LIVIN at https://livin.org/ where you can access resources to help those struggling with mental illness and the online store to purchase merchandise.
