In Episode 1 of Torture: A Dark History, Kevin Young and Dan Hourigan begin the story of Robert Hansen, the “Butcher Baker,” one of the most notorious serial killers in Alaskan history. We follow Hansen from his troubled childhood in Iowa and obsession with hunting to his move to Anchorage, where his crimes against women began to escalate.

We look at the early warning signs that were repeatedly ignored, his attacks on women, the disappearance and murders of women including Eklutna Annie, Joanna Messina, Sherry Morrow, and others, and the bizarre combination of arrogance, incompetence, and sheer luck that allowed Hansen to keep getting away with it.

And because this is Torture: A Dark History, we're also going to discuss Hansen's acne, his infamous nickname, his questionable fashion choices, and the fact that this terrifying serial killer apparently thought a fake mustache was a solid disguise.

This is only the beginning. Hansen's most infamous hunting trips are still to come.
