Turning Ideas to Action: How Your Mindset Impacts Creativity. With Zorana Ivcevic Pringle.

Turning Ideas to Action: How Your Mindset Impacts Creativity. With Zorana Ivcevic Pringle.

Todays guest is Zorana Ivcevic Pringle, a Senior Research Scientist on Creativity at Yale University and author of the book The Creativity Choice, The Science of Making Decisions to Turn ideas into action.  Zorana brings insights into the nature of the creative process, from the first decision to engage with new ideas to its culmination in creative performances and products.  The science of creativity shows that the key to successful creativity is the decision to act—and then deciding to act again and again, despite any physical, mental, or emotional obstacles, until ideas take shape and come to life. She shares some of the hidden parts of the creative process – from what it takes to get started on the journey of doing something with our ideas, to choosing which ideas to pursue to finding ways to persist when encountering inevitable difficulties along the way. I asked about the biggest obstacles and she shared that  we need strategies of problem finding and harnessing the power of emotions to persist through slumps and creative blocks. Finally, creativity is social even when it appears not to be. It’s no surprise that mindset makes a huge difference in how we stick with our creative process. Creativity is often misunderstood, but can enrich both our personal lives and the lives of others. There are lot’s of great nuggets here. How We Can Revitalize Everyday Life, Boost Happiness. With Tali Sharot.

Todays guest is Tali Sharot, professor of Cognitive neuroscience at University College London (UCL) and MIT. She’s also the Director of the Affective Brain Lab at University College London, which integrates neuroscience, behavioral economics, and psychology to study the influence of emotion and motivation on beliefs and decisions. Her most recent  book is called Look Again, The Power of Noticing What Was Already There. In this conversation, Tali  discusses her journey into neuroscience and psychology, exploring the intersection of these fields with behavioral economics. She delves into the concept of optimism, its effects on mental health and happiness, and the U-shaped curve of happiness across different life stages. There’s good news there.  She also shares insights on the phenomenon of habituation, explaining how we adapt to both positive and negative experiences in our lives and that this can have a very unexpected impact-  both good and bad. She explores the relationship between habituation and mental health, particularly in depression. She introduces the idea of 're-sparkling’— I love that word— as a way to bolster everyday experiences and bring more novelty into our lives.  She shares how re-sparkling can revitalize relationships and experiences and how creativity thrives on unexpected connections and changes. Changing environments and habits, she says, can really boost creative thinking.  As always, we’re Untangle, the podcast from Muse the brain sensing headband that helps to transform  your brain. Fierce Self Compassion: How We Harness Kindness to Speak Up and Thrive. With Kristin Neff.

Fierce Self Compassion: How We Harness Kindness to Speak Up and Thrive. With Kristin Neff.

Welcome to another favorite encore edition of Untangle. Kristin Neff is an extremely well-regarded expert and pioneer in the field of self-compassion. Her most recent book is called Fierce Self Compassion: How Women can Harness Kindness to Speak Up, Claim their Power and Thrive. She discusses how self-compassion allows us to be tender with ourselves in difficult situations, but also that it sometimes needs to be fierce — like the mama bear energy that comes from a place of love, service, and a desire to reduce harm. We must, she says, act courageously to protect ourselves from harm and injustice — and to motivate necessary change in ourselves and society. Her message…women can be fierce and tender. Best quote from the book: "Tender Self-Compassion harnesses the energy of nurturing to alleviate suffering while fierce Self-Compassion harnesses the energy of action to alleviate suffering." We need both.As always, we’re Untangle, the podcast from Muse, the brain sensing headband dedicated to unlocking your brains potential. We’re here, just like you…to learn, grow, share and connect. Abundance, Inner Peace, Love: Tools for Creating a Life You’ll Love. With Cathy Heller.

Today’s conversation is with Cathy Heller, Author of the book Abundant Ever After: Tools for Creating a Life of Prosperity and Ease. In this conversation, Cathy shares her concept of abundance,  emphasizing that it is MUCH more about inner peace and connection than material wealth. She admits that it’s challenging to maintain a state of flow and inner peace in a stressful world— but it’s her mission to do this and to teach others as well. She shares her personal journey finding purpose, love and her own spirituality.  She highlights the importance of love, both in receiving and giving, as a fundamental aspect of this human experience. I loved her little stories about how she gives out bits of love throughout her day…wherever she can. Love is a practice…just like meditation. She is driven by the power of human connection and the importance of discovering and aligning with one's gifts. My fave line from her website…YOU get to live a life that takes your breath away.
