Ep. 372 - Revisiting Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-370

Back in March of 2014, Sean Spoonts wrote an excellent article for SOFREP that gained a great deal of traction titled, "Alright, Goodnight - Does Malaysia Want to Know What Happened to Flight MH-370?" As some of you may remember, a great deal of conspiracy theory immediately surrounded what happened to that infamous flight, and it has not gone away due to the lack of any sufficient evidence that we can draw much of a conclusion from. For example, Fox News contributor and former Air Force Lieutenant General Thomas McInerney, who has a history of making outrageous claims, spoke of the plane likely landing in Pakistan with nothing to back up that assertion. The great mystery of where this plane was, sparked the idea for Sean to get together with two experts and refute some of the speculation out there using facts. To this day, the piece holds up. Fast forward to now, the Malaysian government plans to release a new report on the flight this coming Monday. With good reason, Sean is skeptical. So, since Sean was in town to work on some upcoming promotion for Brandon Webb's next book "Mastering Fear," I got him in studio to lay out all of the facts. For those unfamiliar, Sean's been a friend of the site since it's very inception, and his military background is with the Navy as an anti-submarine warfare operator and search and rescue Aircrewman. Sean and I also talk some current events, which includes the disgraceful destruction of a memorial to fallen Navy SEAL Michael Murphy on Long Island, New York. SOFREP is holding a raffle to benefit the Lt Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation due to this. We hope that you partake, and in the process possibly win some kick ass gear from Crate Club.

SEAL Team 6 dog handler, Will Chesney

Will Chesney is the author of No Ordinary Dog, the powerful true story of a SEAL Team Operator and military dog handler, and the dog that saved his life. Two dozen Navy SEALs descended on Osama bin Laden’s compound in May 2011. After the mission, only one name was made public: Cairo, a Belgian Malinois and military working dog. This is Cairo's story, and that of his handler, Will Chesney, a SEAL Team Operator whose life would be irrevocably tied to Cairo's.Starting in 2008, when Will was introduced to the SEAL canine program, he and Cairo worked side by side, depending on each other for survival on hundreds of critical operations in the war on terrorism. But their bond transcended their service. Then, in 2011, the call came: Pick up your dog and get back to Virginia. Now.What followed were several weeks of training for a secret mission. It soon became clear that this was no ordinary operation. Cairo was among the first members of the U.S. military on the ground in Pakistan as part of Operation Neptune Spear, which resulted in the successful elimination of bin Laden. As Cairo settled into a role as a reliable “spare dog,” Will went back to his job as a DEVGRU operator, until a grenade blast in 2013 left him with a brain injury and PTSD. Unable to participate in further missions, he suffered from crippling migraines, chronic pain, memory issues, and depression. Modern medicine provided only modest relief. Instead, it was up to Cairo to save Will's life once more—and then up to Will to be there when Cairo needed him the most. This episode was hosted by SOFREP writer and Green Beret, Steve Balestrieri. If you haven’t already, be sure to join our community at SOFREP and find the best tactical equipment and apparel in our store, The Loadout Room.
