#265 - The Fearmonger - Part One (London, England, UK)

This is Part One of Two of The Fearmonger.

On Monday 4th of November 1985, a three-week spree of rape and murder culminated, as at 9:50pm, a silvery-blue Montego sped north up Park Lane towards Marble Arch, zigzagging like a crazed loon across both lanes at a suicidal 80mph. Inside, two terrified women screamed, as John Steed, the M4 Rapist shot one of his hostages dead. But why did it end this way?

  • Date of his spree: Sunday 13th October 1985 to Wednesday 6th of November 1985
  • Locations: Epsom, Croydon, Banstead, and Park Lane, W1
  • Victim: 5 ('Miss A', 'Miss B', 'Mrs C', Jaqueline Murray & Judy Burnham)
  • Culprit: 1 (John Alan Steed, formerly Gilbert)
  • Method: terror, kidnapping, rape, torture and shooting

#165 - To Love, To Die, Forever (Piccadilly, London, UK)

On Sunday 30th October 1932, Mabel & Herbert checked into Room 201, at the far-left end of the second floor. They had enjoyed a romantic week together, they been out to the theatre, they had savoured a last meal, they sent their personal belongings to their families, and having written their suicide notes, they laid on the bed, and kissed each other goodbye… having taken cyanide. It was ultimate love story of Bradford’s very own Romeo & Juliet. Or so it seemed.Date: Sunday 30th October 1932 at roughly 10pmLocation: Room 201, The Regent Palace Hotel, 38 Glasshouse Street, London, England, W1Victims: 2 (Mabel Hill & Herbert Turner)Culprits: 2 (Mabel Hill & Herbert Turner)Keywords: love, cyanide, suicide, murder, Blog - https://www.murdermiletours.com/blog/murder-mile-uk-true-crime-podcast-165-to-love-to-die-foreverMurder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael J Buchanan-Dunne of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name with additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0 (Attribution) via Free Music Archive and YouTube Music. #164 - Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (Chinatown, London, England)

#164 - Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. On 19th August 1967, 26-year-old Australian-citizen Edward Wahlstrom-Lewis paid a visit to the Rupert Court Club at 8 Rupert Court in London's Chinatown. Entering the club, Edward was given two options; spend £4 to sit and chat to a pretty hostess for a bit, or spend £8 for the whole night. He assumed he was going to spend the night with the lady and (in return) get some sexy time. But when he realised all he was going get was some idle chit-chat, and no nookie, Edward lost his rag and put three men in hospital. This is a truly bizarre story about a man who wanted some kiss kiss, what he delivered was bang bang.Date: Saturday 19th August 1967 at roughly 1amLocation: The Rupert Court Club, 8 Rupert Court, London, UK, W1Victims: 1 (Roy Samuel Martinson, Dinos Mayromatis and Barry Glatz)Culprits: 1 (Edward "Ted" Robert Wahlstrom-Lewis)Keywords: striptease, dancer, shotgun, killing spree, Blog - https://www.murdermiletours.com/blog/murder-mile-uk-true-crime-podcast-164-kiss-kiss-bang-bangMurder Mile is researched, written and performed by Michael J Buchanan-Dunne of Murder Mile Walks with the main musical themes written and performed by Erik Stein and Jon Boux of Cult With No Name with additional music, as used under the Creative Commons License 4.0 (Attribution) via Free Music Archive and YouTube Music. This is Part One of Three of 'Do Not Disturb', the untold story of the murder of Sarah Gibson. In the summer of 1972, 21-year-old Sarah Gibson worked as assistant housekeeper at the RAC Club at 89 Pall Mall, London, SW1. She was quiet, pleasant and she kept to herself. Those who knew her had nothing but kind words to say about her, but on across the night of Sunday 2nd to Monday 3rd July 1972, not only would a sadist assail this veritable Fort-Knox of security and navigate its maze of corridors to access her room, but they would subject this young girl to a truly shocking attack over four torturous hours, which ended in her death. A Festive Thank You from Murder Mile UK True Crime Podcast

This is not a regular Murder Mile episode. As a thank you for supporting the show, here's a little - deliberately silly - Christmas treat which I hope you'll like. If you haven't listened to Extra Mile or Mini Mile, you may not get a lot of the jokes or references. Have a great holidayMxSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/murdermile. Hosted on Acast.
