The parallels between Taiwan & Ukraine have been and are continually being made, despite the seemingly obvious differences, largely because of their symbolism in the fight for democracy vs autocracy. And one person, who's devoted a particular amount of focus to the themes of liberalism, democracy, and governance is Francis Fukuyama. Questions he covered with Pyotr include:

• How does one compare or apply the theories of liberalism and realism in the current geopolitical climate?
• To what extent should we be concerned by the growing disassociation between liberalism and democracy?

For this episode, your host Pyotr interviews a world-renowned figure in the form of Francis Fukuyama, author of The End of History & the Last Man, but moreover, a political juggernaut who has influenced the discipline, foreign policy, and approaches to areas like international relations, geopolitics, or democratization. Professor Fukuyama is Olivier Nomellini Senior Fellow at Stanford University's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI), a faculty member of FSI's Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law (CDDRL), Director of Stanford's Ford Dorsey Master's in International Policy, and former Bernard L. Schwartz Professor of IPE at the Johns Hopkins University SAIS.

His latest book, Liberalism & its Discontent released in May 2022. He also has a blog, Frankly Fukuyama, on American Purpose.
