Episode 246: Drs. David and Jen Unwin

Thank you for joining us for another episode of the Low Carb MD Podcast. Drs. David and Jen Unwin are a husband and wife team who work to help people recover their metabolic health from a psychological and nutritional standpoint.

Dr. David Unwin is a practicing GP based in Southport in the United Kingdom and is a recognized international expert on the topic of carbohydrates and Type 2 diabetes. He is the RCGP National Champion for Collaborative Care and Support Planning in Obesity & Diabetes. In 2015 he won the North West NHS 'Innovator of the Year Award' and in 2016 he won the National NHS 'Innovator of the Year Award' for his work in treating diabetes with a low carb.

Dr. Jen is a consultant clinical health psychologist who has worked in the NHS for over 30 years, helping people with chronic illnesses to improve their lives. She is also former chair of the UK Association for Solution Focused Practice.

In their conversation, Brian, Jen, and David talk about the horrible internal and external effects of addiction, Jen and David's journey together as a couple and as partners in teaching people about metabolic health, the mental aspects of metabolic health, the value of hope and giving people hope, listening to patients and helping them define their goals, the importance of maintaining our relationships with loved ones, remote medical monitoring devices, the impacts of stress and how to reduce it, the process of empowering a patient to activate in the achievement of their own health goals, why focusing on patients rather than on money makes you more successful.
