By this writ, the court directs the person or authority who has detained another person to bring the body of the prisoner before the court so as to enable the court to decide the validity, jurisdiction, or justification for such detention. •Quo Warranto The term quo warranty means what is your authority. The writ of quo warranto is used to judicially control executive action in the matter of making appointments to public offices under relevant statutory provisions. Quo warranto prevents illegal usurpation of public office by an individual •Mandamus Mandamus is a command issued by a court to an authority directing it to perform a public duty imposed upon it by law. •Certiorari A type of writ, meant for rare use, by which an appellate court decides to review a case at its discretion •Prohibition A writ of prohibition is a writ directing a subordinate to stop doing something the law prohibits. This writ is often issued by a superior court to the lower court directing it not to proceed with a case that does not fall under its jurisdiction.
