Nasdaq Woes In A Re-Opening "Explosion"

Nasdaq Woes In A Re-Opening "Explosion"

DB-Mar24,2021: In the main segment, Jared Dillian, editor of the Daily Dirtnap, returns to the Daily Briefing to update Real Vision’s Jack Farley on how he’s navigating the mercurial swings in stocks. Dillian argues that both the rotation from growth into value as well as the sell-off in U.S. Treasurys will likely continue as the U.S. economy re-opens and trillions of dollars worth of stimulus are on the table. Dillian shares with Farley his thoughts on reflationary sectors such as energy, airlines, and life insurance, and he also shares his evaluation of psychology within the Bitcoin market. In the final segment, Farley is joined by Huw Roberts, director of analytics at Quant Insight, who conducts data-driven analysis on how the gyrations in the Nasdaq 100 Index are driven by macro variables like interest rates, commodity prices, currency fluctuations, and expectations for growth and inflation. The Next Wave of Regulation, Adoption, and the Intersection of Private Cryptos and CBDCs ( w/ Kyle Bass & Peter Smith )

The Next Wave of Regulation, Adoption, and the Intersection of Private Cryptos and CBDCs ( w/ Kyle Bass & Peter Smith )

The. Interview: It’s no secret that crypto has gone from a retail phenomenon to something increasingly embraced by institutions and professional investors. As well, the size of the market has gotten to a point that governments in the West and the East can no longer ignore it. In this interview with Kyle Bass, founder and CIO of Hayman Capital, Peter Smith, CEO and co-founder of Blockchain.com, discusses how governments in the West and East will approach regulation of crypto markets and how the world of private cryptos and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) will interact rather than compete. They also discuss how Smith has built his firm accordingly and why he looks at Blockchain as more like the JP Morgan of crypto than something entirely retail-focused like TD Ameritrade. Finally, they touch on Smith's personal asset allocation, his predictions for crypto markets over the next year, and his own questions on Bass' outlook for inflation in 2021. Recorded on March 10, 2021. Key Learnings: Private cryptos and CBDCs will interact rather than compete—but that does not mean all cryptos will survive. Crypto is increasingly competing with traditional finance in areas of "high finance," and the next wave of adoption will take place here. Learn more about your ad choices. Get Ready for the Return of Secular Stagnation ( w/ Daniel Lacalle & Ed Harrison )

Get Ready for the Return of Secular Stagnation ( w/ Daniel Lacalle & Ed Harrison )

The Interview: Narratives around the reflation trade and asset prices are currently pointing towards a full recovery and a period of extended growth as the world exits lockdowns. In this interview with Real Vision managing editor Ed Harrison, Daniel Lacalle, chief economist and CIO at Tressis, argues that this is being fueled by nothing more than hope and that, although this is a recovery, the world will return to the same state of secular stagnation and low growth that existed pre-COVID. Lacalle explains why fiscal and monetary policies, which have not generated inflation, will only make this situation worse, why he thinks there is only a few months left in the reflation trade, and the resulting asset allocation based on his outlook. They also discuss current pockets of value and the sectors that Lacalle considers to be value traps like energy and financials as well as Lacalle’s outlook for the dollar. Recorded on March 10, 2021. Key Learnings: Sectors like energy and financials, which have been benefiting from reflation narratives and trade at low multiples, should not be considered "value". Current negative views on the US and the dollar remind Lacalle of the GFC, but the reality is that the US and the dollar are still the cleanest dirty shirt.
