Alex Murdaugh Dealt Blow As Judge Denies Appeal To Throw Out Financial Charges

Alex Murdaugh’s appeal to overturn his 40-year federal sentence for financial crimes has been denied, putting another nail in the coffin for the once-powerful attorney who led a double life of deceit and betrayal. After pleading guilty to stealing millions from clients, friends, and his own law firm, Murdaugh had hoped to argue that the sentence was too harsh. However, the court quickly dismissed his appeal, pointing out that Murdaugh had waived his right to challenge the sentence when he accepted his plea deal. Now, even if his murder convictions for the deaths of his wife and son are ever overturned, Murdaugh will still face decades behind bars.

The crimes he committed were staggering—years of siphoning off funds meant for victims, all while living a life of unimaginable luxury. And while Murdaugh’s lawyers claimed the sentence was excessive, the court disagreed, saying he earned every day of the 40 years through his "massive fraud" and betrayal of trust.
