Episode 101 – Why Don’t We Ask for What We Want

Episode 101 – Why Don’t We Ask for What We Want

This week’s Check In finds Edward in an interesting space. Having forgotten to restart his psych medications, Edward is experiencing a low and has been angry. Part of the Problem though, is that he feels like it has been this way since he got sick with COVID and stopped his medications. Jason reminds Edward that Just a couple of weeks ago Edward said he felt good and was getting things done. Through continuing conversation Edward realizes that his ADHD has wreaked some havoc, not only with his mood, but also with his perception of time.

In our Deep Dive this week Jason and Edward have a conversation about why people don’t ask for what they want. Jason started thinking about this when a coworker wrote a long email just to ask for something simple. He starts us out with an observation about his children doing the same thing. Edward offers some insight from personal experiences along with some cultural overview. Through our culture and personal experiences many of us do not want to be an inconvenience or have been shamed for asking for what we want. Jason and Edward discuss not only the origins, but also consequences for the lack of asking.
