    This One's For Dolly

    This One's For Dolly

Here at Mamamia Out Loud we wondered how we should talk about the devastating suicide of 14-year-old Dolly Everett. Would we be invading the families privacy? What could we add to the conversation? How could we make a difference? But we realised when tragedies happen you need to talk about them. To process them, to shed light on them and to try to prevent them from happening again. To do this we rang friend of the show Rebecca Sparrow, a woman who talks to teenage girls for a living to learn more about what we can do. If you are going through a difficult time and feel like you need help or just someone to talk to, please ring Lifeline on 13 11 14. Since we're a show of light and shade, we also discuss if women quitting there jobs is the right way to close the gender pay gap and why Kanye West is forcing Kim Kardashian to wear teeny tiny sunglasses. Like we said, we're a show of light and shade.Show NotesDonate to Dolly's Dream here. Time's Up For Coffee Colonics

We're baaacckkk. Happy 2018 Outlouders. What a year we are going to have. First things first though...we need to discuss the Golden Globes. Specifically the fact that Oprah may be running for President in 2020. Mia thinks it’s a great idea, Holly not so much. Plus, Jessie spent a lot of time at the beach over the summer break and she’s feeling a bit bad about her body, so we’re here to fix it. And can’t stop picking up your phone? It could be fixed with a coffee colonic. Jokes. Maybe. We might need to ask Gwyneth about that. BONUS: The Year That Was #MeToo

We began the year watching a man who has been accused of sexual assault by no fewer than 13 women being sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. We’ve ended in the middle of an earth-shifting #metoo movement, which has seen powerful men stripped of their untouchable status along with their honours and sometimes, their livelihoods. Rachel and Holly are joined by the face of our local #metoo movement, journalist, activist and feminist Tracey Spicer to talk about how 2017 became the year the world woke up to sexual harrasment. BONUS: The Year That Was Marriage Equality

2017 was the year Australia finally decided it was time to make it legal for same sex couples to marry and to say it’s been a long journey is an understatement. Placed in the “too hard” basket by both Labour and the Coalition for too long, we began it might not ever happen. What followed was possibly even more controversial - a non-binding postal vote. But, we got there in the end and just this month the first same sex couple got married. The former Prime Minister Tony Abbott was the leading face of the NO campaign but his sister, Sydney City Councillor Christine Forster, became a powerful voice for change and she joins us to look back on the year that was.
