Regulating Crypto (with SEC Chair Gary Gensler)

In this episode of Stay Tuned, Preet answers listener questions about the workings of the Securities and Exchange Commission, including, among other things, the overlapping jurisdiction of the SEC and U.S. attorney offices, and the difference between criminal and civil securities fraud. Then, Preet interviews SEC Chair Gary Gensler. Gensler has been at the forefront of financial policymaking for decades, including stints as the Chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and as an aide to Senator Paul Sarbanes. Most recently, Gensler was a professor of global economics and management at MIT, where he taught a class on blockchain technology. Preet’s conversation with Gensler, which took place on Monday, September 27th, before a live audience at the Code Conference in Los Angeles, covers the hotly debated issues around regulating cryptocurrencies, the future of SPACs, and SEC initiatives to combat the climate crisis.
