#228 - Legendary: Talking Career, Retirement, and Moving Abroad with Tera Patrick

SO VERY EXCITED to finally launch this episode! I bring to you this week the legendary adult film star, Tera Patrick, to discuss her career journey, the challenges of navigating the adult industry, and the importance of setting boundaries. Tera shares her experiences with doxxing, the stigma surrounding sex work, and how she balances her personal and private life. The conversation emphasizes the need for empowerment and understanding in the sex work community, as well as the significance of mental health and self-care. We also explore the complexities of dating within the adult industry, the expectations placed on sex workers, and the importance of recognizing their humanity. They discuss the impact of social media in bridging the gap between performers and fans, the challenges of transitioning to life abroad, and the significance of respecting local cultures as expats. The dialogue emphasizes the need for support within the sex work community and the multifaceted nature of individuals in the industry.

This episode was brought to you by PS: Group. An adult marketing agency for the independent creator-driven era, PS: Group offers a comprehensive range of creative services designed exclusively for sex workers, by sex workers.

#84 - A Not-so-Cryptic Take on Cryptocurrency and Cybersecurity w/ Paul Jones of Natterish.com

#84 - A Not-so-Cryptic Take on Cryptocurrency and Cybersecurity w/ Paul Jones of Natterish.com

Whew, last week was a doozy! Back to your regular scheduled programming which was so on-point amidst all of the recent controversy with OnlyFans lately (considering I pre-recorded this episode a week before the fiasco even went down!). I speak with Paul Jones, a veteran sex worker based in London, the UK, of natterish.com and badbutlerxxx.com about protecting your online identity and safety through various fintech apps, website creation and maintenance and wading into the territory of cryptocurrency. Paul, who has built sex worker-friendly platforms and websites for decades, speaks to us about what to look out for when you are building your own personalized website for sex work, being mindful of what legislation you would fall under, how to accept payment, types of payment that is best for sex workers and more. Because there has been so much rising interest within the realm of cryptocurrency in the past few years, we also chat about that as well from a perspective of what crypto platforms (and for the sake of this episode, we speak mainly in regards to Bitcoin) are out there, what’s available for sex workers and clients to use, a brief understanding and explanation of how it works and what scams to avoid. Honestly, I’ll probably have to do a future episode breaking it down even further past this overview but Paul provided a great explanation (which I’m still wrapping my head around!) on how this may be a viable option for sex workers in protecting your money. PS. Paul is offering an amazing promotion now for sex workers in the industry that if you need a website, he will build it and you PAY NOTHING until January 2022. BONUS - RIP OnlyFans

BONUS - RIP OnlyFans

RIP OnlyFans. It was bound to happen, sooner or later. It's just me this week for an early and emergency-style BONUS episode. If you’ve been living under a rock lately or have been disconnected over the past 48 hours, you might be surprised to hear of the new changes to OnlyFans’ Acceptable Use Policy coming into effect on October 1st, 2021. On Thursday, August 19, 2021, OnlyFans announced that they were to be banning sexually explicit content from their platform. What does this exactly entail? Who’s affected by it? What other platforms can sex workers move onto? I answer all of these questions and address all of the major concerns surrounding the platform, including the motivations behind it including pressure from big banks and payment processors, OnlyFans cleansing its “porn” reputation, its new verification process, and so much more. *Please note that I recorded this episode earlier this afternoon on Friday, August 20th and once I finished recorded, checked my email and saw that OnlyFans has, indeed, confirmed the changes in a statement. My in-real-time reaction can be listened to at the 46:00-minute mark which further confirmed my suspicious which were raised earlier in the episode. #83 - Costuming and Cosplay: Sewing Along Craftmanship, Creativity and Fetishization w/ Serena Rayne

#83 - Costuming and Cosplay: Sewing Along Craftmanship, Creativity and Fetishization w/ Serena Rayne

Sooo excited about this episode! We all know how much fun it is to be on stage (or maybe you don’t do stage) or atleast how fun it is to play dress up in our respective lines of work. Whether it's dainty lingerie, something silky and sultry, or maybe it's campy, there is always an artist behind the outfit. This week, I bring on Alberta-based dancer, Serena Rayne, to speak abut her love for anime (Japanese animation), cosplay, and sewing. Because we were (and are) anime geeks, we gush about our favourite shows, what we grow up with and how it influenced us. Anime played a major role in Serena's life which led her to working at fellow princess parties and later, channeling those costumes on stage as a stripper. Serena now creates all of her costumes from scratch which is super impressive since she is completely self-taught! But can a white woman playing dress up be equally as harmful, opposite of the fantasy they are portraying? Because some costumes are dangerously close to emanating culture, traditions and bear cultural significance, we just had to speak about appropriation and the fetishization of costumes and how that may further perpetuate negative stereotypes about certain races, genders and so on. Even if you aren't an anime lover, tune in because Serena provides so much great insight on all of these topics as mentioned above! @serena_rayne_sgh Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph twitter.com/strippedbysia www.stephsia.com https://www.patreon.com/Strippedbysia

#81 - Navigating Male vs. Queer vs. "Regular" Strip Clubs as an Enby LatinX Dancer w/ Miami Lux

#81 - Navigating Male vs. Queer vs. "Regular" Strip Clubs as an Enby LatinX Dancer w/ Miami Lux

I was finally able to catch up with dancer, Miami Lux, who has traveled all around the USA bouncing and working from club-to-club. Currently calling Portland home (for now!), Miami opens up about their Latinx roots, how that's affected how people treat them and how they navigate their work. Miami, who identifies as enby, or non-binary, has danced in all types of clubs across the country. Because they are male-presenting, they have been able to work in both male/heterosexual and queer clubs, feeling most at home at the latter. We speak about their experiences having danced at various clubs and how to deal with customer complaints, raging bachelorette parties, consenting to physical touch, and how to manage racialized microaggressions. We also get to touch on the differences in atmosphere from coast to coast, identifying unsafe conditions and safe spaces, and so much more! @miamilux_ Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph twitter.com/strippedbysia www.stephsia.com https://www.patreon.com/Strippedbysia

#80 - Balancing Duality: Square Work and Sex Work w/ Dr. Raven Bowen of National Ugly Mugs (NUM)

#80 - Balancing Duality: Square Work and Sex Work w/ Dr. Raven Bowen of National Ugly Mugs (NUM)

This is technically my 100th episode (including bonus and miniseries) and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than having a super amazing guest on to fit the celebration! This week I am bringing Dr. Raven Bowen, CEO of National Ugly Mugs (NUM). Based in London, UK, NUM is a by and for charity that assists and support sex workers. Prior to her position at NUM, Raven hailed from Vancouver, Canada and was also the Executive Director at PACE Society (which you may have heard on Episode #78), worked with the BCCEC, and helped form programs that help sex workers like MAP (also featured during the COVID miniseries!). Her 25+ years of research and work for the community is absolutely incredible and on today’s episode, we are focusing on her new book, Work, Money and Duality: Trading Sex as a Side Hustle. We speak about sex workers balancing square/civilian work with sex work, the reasons on why they do it, the pushback that they might receive, the rituals they perform, the secrecy, the whorearchy and so much more. Her book was such great read which offered incredible insight on our industry and I highly recommend anyone in our industry to give it a read. Raven was such exceptionally intelligent and engaging guest who clearly cares about our community and I am so, so grateful to have had the chance to connect with her on this milestone week. Lastly, thank you to everyone who has listened, downloaded, shared and reviewed this podcast. I never thought I'd get this far! I appreciate all of your support. Thank you! https://nationaluglymugs.org twitter.com/nationaluglymug Buy her book: https://policy.bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/work-money-and-duality Why SWers live dual lives: https://youtu.be/HPkR3MFroZI Don’t forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph twitter.com/strippedbysia www.stephsia.com https://www.patreon.com/Strippedbysia

#79 - "I Get Paid to be Beautiful and Exist": An Introduction to Financial Domination w/ Vanessa Jolie

#79 - "I Get Paid to be Beautiful and Exist": An Introduction to Financial Domination w/ Vanessa Jolie

I am VERY EXCITED to bring on this week’s guest because it’s a topic that we haven’t yet spoken about on the podcast…and that topic is findom. Findom, or financial domination, is a fetish involving a subordinate and dominant complex where money is given or gifted to a financial dominatrix. It’s a total power play which is gaining in popularity over the years and the curiosity surrounding it continues to grow. To tackle such a huge subject, I invite findomme, Vanessa Jolie, a former escort turned online content creator, to speak on the topic. Although she is only six months into findomme, she has sought out coaching and training to properly care for her finsubs and to exercise caution and risk. She speaks of her experience on getting started, attracting new subs, working with budgets to responsibly practice this kink, and speaks on the common misconceptions surrounding findom. I absolutely loved having Vanessa on the show to speak about her findom journey and her DM’s are open in case you are wondering about how to enter this world! @thevanessajolie twitter.com/vanessajolie_ reddit.com/u/vanessauncensored onlyfans.com/vanessauncensored sextpanther.com/vanessa-jolie Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph twitter.com/strippedbysia www.stephsia.com https://www.patreon.com/Strippedbysia

#78 - Providing Critical Frontline Support to Sex Workers w/ Kit Rothschild of PACE Society

#78 - Providing Critical Frontline Support to Sex Workers w/ Kit Rothschild of PACE Society

A casual Instagram encounter turned into conversation which turned into an invitation to come onto the show to speak. I invite Kit Rothschild of PACE Society to come onto the show this week to share and spread the word about PACE Society, a sex worker-led and run organization located in Vancouver, Canada. PACE Society has been supporting sex workers since 1994 and offers a plethora of services and programs to support sex workers. Back in Montreal where they are from, Kit was introduced to sex work in a super non-conventional way: by newspaper ad for one of the largest and oldest dungeons in Quebec. After a 5-year stint in the industry, they found themselves drawn to PACE Society, which enabled them to relocate to Vancouver. Kit, the Violence Prevention Coordinator, describes it as a "dream job". First starting as a Support Worker, they worked their way up to their current title working on providing occupational health and safety programs to members of their community and organization. Weekly workshops, lunches, tax services, and the sex worker relief are just a few of the many programs that Kit helped facilitate and worked on. This episode provides a glimpse of how we can support these sex worker-friendly organizations, where your donation money goes to, and even provides an insight if this is work that you may one day be interested in. https://www.pace-society.org/ https://www.twitter.com/PACEsociety Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph https://www.patreon.com/Strippedbysia twitter.com/strippedbysia www.stephsia.com

BONUS - The Changing Landscape of Sex Work (Virtually LIVE from Florida State University w/ Me)

BONUS - The Changing Landscape of Sex Work (Virtually LIVE from Florida State University w/ Me)

Alright, it's BONUS EPISODE TIME...featuring me. We all need a little break, don't we? Also, happy 4th of July to all my American listeners! Even more of a reason to have a bonus episode break, am I right? I had the opportunity and invitation to guest lecture again (third time's a charm - thanks Alicia!) at Florida State University in their Human Sexuality class. This lecture was a little bit different than the previous two guest lectures where I really speak about sex work on a global scale and how that is changing. We talk about my origins in sex work and how it led me to hosting this sex worker podcast for almost two years and to my advocacy. We speak about the legal repercussions and consequences that we, as sex workers, face because of the criminalized nature of work and that decriminalization is merely just step one. Having a super engaged class full of wide-eyed and curious students made this lecturing experience so much more memorable and hopeful for the students in the future. Listen in - brand new episode will be coming out next week! Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW, and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph twitter.com/strippedbysia www.stephsia.com
