Episode 05 Being a Light in the World

Episode 05 Being a Light in the World

Welcome back to our podcast, 2 Minutes with the Lord, a space where we explore the depths of faith, hope, and humanity. I'm your host Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we're diving into a topic that resonates deeply with our shared human experience, The topic for today's podcast is "Being a Light in the World." Picture a candle in a dim room, a flickering flame that embodies the hope, we bring to a world sometimes shrouded in darkness. At the heart of Catholic faith, lies the call to be a light in a world that sometimes feels dark. In Matthew 5:14-16, where Jesus reminds us, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… Let your light shine before others.” The important part of being a light is to show compassion. Compassion is a guiding star that leads us to connect deeply with others. As Colossians 3:12, says, “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” Being a light means being the change we wish to see. This reminds us of Mahatma Gandhi’s words, “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” Serving others is a powerful way to radiate light. We reflect on Galatians 5:13, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Kindness is a beacon that guides us in our quest to make a difference. Kindness is a language we all understand. Let’s dwell on Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” This is real life story of a man named Jadhav Payeng also known as “Forest man of India” who dedicated his life, to preserving the environment on the Brahmaputra river, turning it into a forest reserve. His tireless efforts inspired others, this sparked a movement that redefined the way to show act of Kindness towards humanity. As we wrap up this episode on “Being a Light in the World,” may you carry with you the flame of inspiration to brighten the lives of those around you. Thank you for joining us today. Remember, in the journey of life, your acts of kindness, service, and compassion are threads that weave a beautiful story of hope and transformation. Until we meet again for another enlightening conversation, may your journey, be illuminated by the radiance of being a light in the world. God bless and have a wonderful week.
