Movie's summary:

Mia Thermopolis is a sweet and very bright 15 year old girl, yet socially awkward, shy, a little geeky, and pretty much invisible to everyone with the exception of her single mother, Lilly (her best friend), and Lilly’s brother, Michael. Making it through high school without throwing up is a challenge in itself for Mia, so it doesn’t come as welcome news when her estranged grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi, shows up out of the blue and calmly informs her that she is in fact the heir to the throne of an European kingdom called Genovia. Suddenly Mia’s life is thrown into complete overload. She’s being taught about manners, dancing, and personal presentation to become a perfect Princess. She receives a makeover and a bodyguard and driver called Joe. Things get out of hand when the media gets a hold of the story and suddenly Mia is thrust into the spotlight in the newspaper and in school. On top of all that, Mia has a choice to make. She must decide by Genovian Independence Day Ball whether she relinquish her claim on the throne or to become the Princess and heir to the throne her father and grandmother want her to be. Terrified by the prospect, Mia plans to run away until she discovers a touching letter from her late father. She changes her mind and makes her way to the ball to accepts her role as Princess of Genovia.

The book is telling about eleven year old twins, Jason and Julia, who have just moved from London to an old mansion on the English coast. Their new home is filled with twisting tunnels and strange artifacts from around the world, and the twins can't wait to discover all its secrets. Before long, Jason, Julia, and their friend, Rick, stumble upon a mysterious-looking door hidden behind an old wardrobe. But none of the keys in the house will open it. Jason, Julia, and Rick are determined to find out, no matter what it takes.
