Emilee Saldaya and 2 Fathers Unpack Freebirth: The Terrain Theory Interview

Emilee Saldaya and 2 Fathers Unpack Freebirth: The Terrain Theory Interview

Watch this episode HERE

We are closing out 2023 by turning the tables and bringing you an episode where I’m the one that was interviewed, on the Terrain Theory Podcast! I am really proud of this conversation and the depth of information we cover. It’s one of my best interviews yet!

I share my own origin story of birth-work and my journey to discovering sovereign birth, which I haven’t publicly shared in this way before. I unpack the common mistruths and misunderstandings about sovereign birth beyond the system, we go over the host’s own experience with the birth of his son, and let’s be real - I kind of blow these men’s minds. They, like most others, were totally unaware of the trauma, abuse, and lies that modern obstetrics are steeped in and how a medwife-attended homebirth is *totally* inviting the system into your home, despite being sold as the best choice for “freedom fighters”. We touch on instinct injury, why I don’t use the word empowerment, and how important women-only gatherings are.

Here’s what you’ll hear:

✨️My own story of dropping out of high school, moving to LA, diving headfirst into infant massage, and bereavement support for parents whose babies were terminally ill

✨️How I thought I could reform birth-work in the system, and the gaslighting and deep programming I was up against that kept me in the system for 10 years

✨️How a particularly traumatic set of births led me to understanding there was no way to ethically continue birth-work in the system

✨️The nuance and importance of language and what is a midwife, a medwife, a freebirth, and what it isn't.

✨️I unpack a bit of Ben’s son’s birth and the unnecessary drama their medwife created by her own fear and allegiances to the state

✨️How engaging in the system is entirely voluntary and we explore women’s healing potential without it
