After achieving her own sobriety, Amie became a substance abuse counselor. She turned her focus to kayaking and shortly into her paddling career, she suffer hit her head and suffered a brain injury during a rapids run. Amie spent time recovering and learning to read, walk and talk again. After a successful recovery, she conquered those same rapids proving she had what it took to continue her love for kayaking.
