The Journey of a Media Personality: Meet Jeanne Sparrow

The Journey of a Media Personality: Meet Jeanne Sparrow

Jeanne Sparrow is a 3-time Emmy-winning media personality, speaker, consultant and faculty member of Northwestern University's Master of Science in Communication program. Jeanne is also an alumna of Northwestern University, where she earned both Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Science in Communication degrees.

With three decades of experience as an award-winning television host/reporter and award-winning radio personality on many Chicago area stations, including WVAZ and WGCI radio, CBS2, NBC5, WGN & WCIU, she helps people become more successful as leaders, salespeople, and in life through her firm The Spoken Bird.

She believes that words have power that can change lives – and even the world – when you use them with intention and purpose. Look for Jeanne's forthcoming book, "Fearless Authenticity: Insider Secrets to Lead Better, Sell More and Speak Sensationally."

A few points Jeanne shares:

1. Jobs you hold during high school or college may very well link to the jobs you pursue after graduating, so get in the habit of thinking creatively about your job searches.

2. There are some things in life that you can't plan for, so it's important to follow the opportunities that present themselves when they do.

3. There can sometimes be conflicts of interests that you aren't aware of between two jobs. When that happens, you may have to make a difficult choice and choose one of them to stick with.

4. If you ever have to ask yourself if you really want to pursue a particular career, then you probably don't want to do it. Figure out what it is that you really would like to do, and then ask yourself what you would be willing to sacrifice or do to support your pursuit of your true interest.

5. Wherever you end up in life is a sum-total of wherever you've been, so look at everything as an opportunity to learn and get better. You make yourself better and can make it a habit to improve who you are.
