228 | Hospitality, Cancer, Bodies, the Restaurant Industry, & Healing with Laura Wagstaff

I was unsure what to expect when I met Laura, I was connected to her by pervious podcast guest Camilla Ruth Marcus. I knew she was lovely via email, Camilla spoke highly of her, and that she had a thriving career in the NYC hospitality industry but that was about it. Days before our interview she sent me a keynote she'd given a few months prior. I read the 12 pages on a long train train and found myself fully weeping by the time I arrived at my stop. When I spoke to her in her cozy West Village apartment a few days later it was clear immediately she'd worked in hospitality her entire career. She is a host through and through, I felt so cozy in her space chatting with her about our fascinating story for hours. I loved learning about the hospitality industry, how she navigated a having rare cancer in the prime of her career, her experience with the medical industry, and how she used her cancer as a learning opportunity to discovering food as medicine, shifting her perspective on death, intuition, and listening to her body. We cover tips for those dealing with a cancer diagnosis, in the hospitality industry or wanting to be as well as for being a patron, networking, and seeing things from a new lens.

Four Sigmatic

Some of you may know and remember my episode with Tero from Four Sigmatic where we talk about all things mushrooms. I’ve been a huge fan of Four Sigmatic's products and company for years. If you haven’t tried them yet or aren’t sure who they are - Four Sigmatic creates delicious and easy-to-make mushroom beverages with a wide variety of superfood (aka super-good-for-you) ingredients for just about any kind of mood you are in or time of day. From Mushroom Coffees, to Matchas to Hot Cacao and multi-mushroom Elxirs -- there is really a product out there for everyone. I enjoy them as drinks throughout my day but you can also get super creative with the mixes and blend them into oatmeals, smoothies, yogurts and more. There are really so many amazing products they have now. I always have some on stock and recommend you give them if you haven’t!

You can get 15% off all your orders by heading over
