Some say it will double our exports and strengthen environmental protections. Others say it will crush whatever remaining life out of our manufacturing sector and give government and big business a stranglehold on the Internet. Whatever the case, this has been a truly bipartisan effort, with The Obama Administration embracing and building on this initiative that began by Bush Administration. However, what is most disturbing to many is the fact that TPP has been negotiated behind closed doors; so we, the people have only received glimpses of the 29 chapter (and growing?) trade agreement and the analysis of some of the stakeholders – and the US people are not alone in this concern. In Japan, nearly 3,000 protesters staged a rally in Tokyo’s Hibiya Park that was jointly organized by agricultural and consumers’ groups who issues this statement. “If the government announces Japan’s participation in the (TPP) negotiations without building a national consensus, we can only describe that as an act of betrayal against its citizens,” their joint statement said.
