About the Event: Black women's hair has long been a focal point of beauty, identity, and political discourse. Despite societal progress, the experiences of Black and Afro-Latina women with natural hair in various social spheres, from educational settings to the professional world, remain challenged by lingering stigmas. In an age where individuality should be celebrated, the question arises: why does the stigma around natural hair continue?

This panel discussion will address these vital questions and more. Authors Lyzette Wanzer, MFA, and Jasmine Hawkins, MA, will share insights from their acclaimed book, TRAUMA, TRESSES, & TRUTH: Untangling Our Hair Through Personal Narratives, focusing on the personal and political dimensions of Black women's hair.
