After almost three weeks, and much mockery, there's finally a new Speaker of the House. Today, Louisiana state representative Mike Johnson got enough votes to be sworn in, but things were ugly right up to the end. During a press conference, a reporter asked Johnson about his role in seeking to overturn the 2020 election and got quite a reaction. And it was just a few days ago the head of the FBI warned of the possibility of criminal activity in this country linked to the unrest in the Middle East, and it appears to have happened. A family in California says they were forced to hide in a locked room after an intruder broke in threatening to 'kill the Israelis.' As Jim Moret reports, police were called and arrested the suspect, leaving the family terribly shaken. Plus, troubling questions about that pilot who has pleaded not guilty to grabbing the controls on a commercial jet mid-flight. He reportedly told investigators he's been depressed for years and had consumed magic mushrooms two days before the episode. Was he trying to treat his depression? Many others have... including these moms who say mushrooms have done wonders for their mood. And it's a security vault containing millions of dollars' worth of diamonds, so you'd hope it would be super safe. Well, one guy just learned how secure those vaults are when he was accidentally locked inside. Not even New York's finest could get him out.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. A scare in the air as a plane is diverted midflight after an off-duty pilot in the cockpit allegedly tried to shut down the engines! Fortunately, the flight crew was able to stop him and get him subdued. As Jim Moret reports, the suspect is now charged with 83 counts of attempted murder. And a JetBlue flight did a wheelie, and stayed there, while passengers were disembarking from the plane at JFK. According to JetBlue, the incident occurred as a result of a “shift in weight and balance” as passengers were about to exit. No passengers were injured. Plus, the two American hostages freed by Hamas are still in Israel...where their family members celebrate their release but are still sick with worry over eight other relatives still being held. The mother and daughter are being debriefed by intelligence officials about their two weeks in captivity. As Steven Fabian reports, conceivably, they know more than anyone where the hostages are. And a teen was cleaning instruments at his music school when a suspected armed bank robber being pursued by police burst in. The teen was accidentally shot by one officer in the arm. He's a musician and the question is - will the aspiring guitar player be able to play again?  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Finally, some good news from the war. Two Americans, who were among the more than 200 hostages being held by terrorists, have been released. It's been confirmed that the freed hostages are a mother and daughter pair from outside of Chicago. They are safely at a military base in southern Israel and will soon be reunited with their family. And in his address to the nation, President Joe Biden said he wants to allocate 60 billion dollars in aid to back up Israel and Ukraine, but that can't happen until Congress gets its act together. And today, there was more chaos as a third unsuccessful vote was held to pick a new Speaker of the House. Behind the scenes, it's getting ugly, with a congressman's wife releasing a threatening voicemail about her husband's vote. Plus, kids put stuff in their mouths all the time. But when one seven-year-old boy on the school bus swallowed a quarter, it could have ended in disaster if not for his quick-thinking bus driver. As Les Trent reports, that driver is now being called an angel. And the lady giving Taylor Swift some competition when it comes to going crazy at an NFL game. She was so energetic that many thought she was an actress, but she tells Jim Moret she was just excited!  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. It's a historic wartime visit to Israel for President Joe Biden. As soon as he arrived in Tel Aviv he weighed in on the shocking news about the bombing of a hospital that reportedly killed hundreds...telling reporters Israel is not to blame. It's a diplomatic trip with a goal of bringing an end to the conflict. Natalee was killed by Joren van der Sloot - who today finally revealed what happened all those years ago as part of a plea deal in which he pleaded guilty to extortion and wire fraud. Plus, Britney Spears new memoir doesn’t hit stores until next week, but she already seems to be settling scores. It's a deadly standoff for the nearly 200 hostages being held for days by Hamas. They may be the one thing preventing a full-scale assault on Gaza, and a prize bargaining chip for the terrorists who kidnapped them. And for their families, as videos of their loved ones emerge, it is excruciating. Among them is the family of this 21-year-old taken from the music festival. Badly injured, in the video she is seen begging for help. And a number of world leaders are heading to the Middle East, including the German chancellor, Britain's prime minister, and the president of France. President Biden will also be in Tel Aviv, and his trip poses a security nightmare for the Secret Service. Plus, Britney Spears is on the cover of People magazine – her first cover shoot in five years. It's all to promote her upcoming memoir and it includes quite a bombshell. In the book, Britney claims that Justin Timberlake got her pregnant during their three-year relationship. And it's estimated that as many as 19 million Americans may be hoarders. Most of them have jammed their homes to the brim with stuff. But in the case of this person, their car is their castle. As Les Trent explains, that's something of a problem.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. We're learning more about the final days of Suzanne Somers. Although she played the ditzy blonde on TV, in real life she was a shrewd businesswoman whose fitness products and books made her a very wealthy woman. As Jim Moret reports, she lost her long battle with breast cancer just one day before she would have turned 77. And hundreds of Americans were among those desperately fleeing Gaza today. It's been a struggle, with Hamas reportedly blocking some exit routes and food, water, and medical supplies are running short or are gone. And the bad news keeps coming, as there are more hostages being held than first reported. Israeli officials now say 199 people are confirmed as captured, including small children. Plus, Taylor Swift spent the weekend in New York with her new boyfriend, Travis Kelce. They were surrounded by security, minus one of Taylor's bodyguards who protected her on tour. He just left to fight in the Middle East. And it's been a long road to recovery for a man who survived a grizzly bear attack, and he's still got ways to go. He lost his jaw in the attack, but not his zest for life. To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices.
