Geopolitics: The intent behind Turkey’s combative foreign policy

Geopolitics: The intent behind Turkey’s combative foreign policy

Turkey has all the hallmarks of consolidating into an authoritarian regime. An aggressive foreign policy appears to be Erdoğan's tactic to unite the country behind his leadership at a time when support for his party is waning.

Leadership is opening up multiple political and military fronts, including sending troops and equipment to Azerbaijan as a decade’s old territorial dispute flared into a conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as looking to redefine maritime borders with Libya in an attempt to control natural resources in the Mediterranean.

In the latest episode of The Insight, the Intelligence Fusion team take a closer look at what's happening on the ground; in particular, analysing the dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia and Turkey's involvement in addition to the country's activity in the Mediterranean with regards to energy security and the use of drones as part of their increasing militarisation.
