Kevin Franke Speaks Out on Ex-Wife Ruby Franke’s Crimes: ‘I Have Regrets’

Kevin Franke, the estranged husband of disgraced parenting influencer Ruby Franke, is breaking his silence following her conviction for child abuse. In a new interview, he admitted that he trusted his wife and her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, despite mounting concerns about their extreme parenting methods.

“The bottom line is: I was choosing to trust a licensed professional mental health counselor and my wife, and they gave some terrible counsel,” Franke told Good Morning America. “And I have regrets. And I wish I hadn’t done those things.”

Ruby Franke, 43, was once a celebrated mommy blogger with over 2.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, 8Passengers. Alongside Hildebrandt, she later founded ConneXions Classrooms, a parenting and lifestyle brand that offered paid counseling sessions and retreats. What was once a lucrative online business ultimately unraveled into a criminal case when authorities discovered two of Franke’s children malnourished and restrained in Hildebrandt’s home.

The case shocked audiences familiar with Franke’s strict parenting style, which had already raised red flags. In one of her earlier 8Passengers videos, her eldest son Chad casually revealed that he had been forced to sleep on a beanbag for seven months as punishment. After losing sponsors and facing backlash, Franke shifted to working with Hildebrandt, who encouraged even harsher parenting methods.

In one resurfaced video from ConneXions Classrooms, Franke told parents, “If your child comes to you on fire, you don’t pat them on the head and say, ‘It’s OK, I’ll help you.’ No, you beat them, and you kick them, and you hit them with a rod.”

Kevin Franke, a professor and father of six, said he was unaware of the extent of the abuse but now acknowledges that his wife’s actions were dangerous. He last saw his children more than a year before Ruby’s arrest in August 2023. The abuse allegations surfaced when Franke’s 12-year-old son escaped from Hildebrandt’s $5.3 million home in Ivins, Utah. The child, severely malnourished and bound with duct tape, ran to a neighbor for help, prompting an immediate police response.

Authorities discovered another one of Franke’s children, a 9-year-old girl, in similarly horrific condition. The case revealed years of disturbing practices, with Franke’s eldest daughter, Shari, previously attempting to alert child services about the abuse. Both Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse and were sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison.

Despite the horror of the case, Kevin Franke admitted that his feelings for Ruby are complicated. “I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving her,” he said. “Does that mean that I want to let her back into my life? Let her back into my kids’ lives? Absolutely not.”

Kevin and his son Chad are now speaking out ahead of the release of Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke, a new documentary detailing Ruby’s rise and fall. The documentary includes never-before-seen clips of Franke’s aggressive outbursts, painting a stark contrast to the polished image she portrayed online.

Reflecting on the dangers of social media, Kevin Franke is now urging parents to reconsider exposing their families to the public eye. “There is real danger when you place yourself, or your family, your children, out onto public social media,” he warned.

The case has ignited broader discussions about parenting influencers, the ethics of monetizing family life, and the potential dangers of unregulated online advice. While Franke and Hildebrandt marketed their content as guidance for struggling parents, their convictions highlight the dark side of influencer culture, where financial incentives can overshadow child welfare.

Is Someone Like Ruby Franke Capable Of Being Rehabilitated After The Horrific Abuse Of Her Children?

Is Someone Like Ruby Franke Capable Of Being Rehabilitated After The Horrific Abuse Of Her Children?

On the chilling podcast Hidden Killers, Tony Brueski and Bob Motta delve into the disturbing case of Ruby Frankie, a mother sentenced to prison for shocking acts of abuse against her children.  In this episode, they explore the question of whether convicted cult leader and self-help guru Jodi Hildebrandt may have played a role in the horrific abuse Ruby inflicted. “I mean, how do you unlearn something like that? Once you go so far down the road, why now are you seeing the errors in your ways?”  – Tony Brueski Defense attorney Bob Motta weighs in,  offering his legal perspective on the case: *“I don’t think prison rehabilitates, but people can be rehabilitated in prison.  They have resources, but they don’t force you to take them...” * The hosts debate whether Ruby was truly a victim of manipulation or whether she holds ultimate responsibility for the crimes she committed. Brueski and Motta consider the psychological damage inflicted by those like Jodi Hildebrandt, drawing on the real-life experiences of individuals who escaped her control. *“Do I think that Ruby will come out in 20 or 30 years, whenever she’s going to get out, and become an abusive monster again? No…I think she’s feeling the full weight of it right now.” * – Bob Motta In a case filled with darkness, Hidden Killers seeks to understand how the path to abuse is forged. Was Ruby always capable of this, or is there more to the story? Did desperation make her susceptible to influence by an evil outsider? Does a chance of redemption exist in the aftermath of such horrific crimes?   Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? How Dangerous Are LDS Doomsday Beliefs To Children & Society, Like That Of Ruby Franke?

How Dangerous Are LDS Doomsday Beliefs To Children & Society, Like That Of Ruby Franke?

Why does the LDS Church seem like fertile ground for extremist groups preaching distorted beliefs, leading to horrific outcomes like child abuse? On this episode of "Hidden Killers", Tony Brueski and former defense attorney Lori Hellis delve into the alarming pattern of "doomsday" groups emerging from within the LDS Church. Lori emphasizes the cultural insularity that contributes to the vulnerability of some members when confronted with charismatic leaders and distorted interpretations of doctrine. They discuss how seemingly normal, everyday people can be susceptible: "If the mainstream doctrine is 12 o'clock, the doctrines that the doomsday folks are embracing are really about 12:01." Lori's insights from her work on the Lori Vallow case further illuminate the chilling mindset of parents who justify abuse as preparing their children for the apocalypse. The conversation also touches on the potential for a major schism within the LDS Church, as a conservative faction seeks to return to a more fundamentalist version of Joseph Smith's teachings. Closing Question: How can we understand the risks within close-knit religious communities, and prevent future tragedies fueled by extremist ideology?   Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? What Does The Future Hold For Ruby Franke & Jodi Hildebrandt?

What Does The Future Hold For Ruby Franke & Jodi Hildebrandt?

Is a convincing apology enough to earn early release? Could convicted child abusers Ruby Frankie and Jody Hildebrandt manipulate their way out of prison? On this episode of "Hidden Killers", Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott dissect the sentencing of Ruby Frankie and Jody Hildebrandt. Sentenced to four to sixty years for their horrific abuse, their ultimate fate rests in the hands of the parole board. Shavaun analyzes Ruby Frankie's courtroom statement, calling it a "coached response" aimed at manipulating the system. Tony questions if parole boards are easily swayed by such performances, or if genuine remorse can be faked. The discussion then turns to Jody Hildebrandt's claim that she "sincerely loved these children," a statement Shavaun links to the narcissistic tendencies often found in cult leaders. With the possibility of release looming, the podcast delves into the chilling question of whether these women pose a continued threat to the public. Could they resurface under new identities, preying on the vulnerable once again? Closing Question:  How do we protect ourselves and our communities from those who mask their monstrous behavior behind a facade of love and concern?   Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Were they both guilty, or was one truly the mastermind? Retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke joins host Tony Brueski to weigh in on the shocking case of Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt. After a Utah judge ruled both women receive 15-year consecutive sentences for their horrific abuse of children, complex questions linger. Was Franke vulnerable, easily manipulated, and truly capable of rehabilitation?   Dreeke unpacks the possibility of religious extremism contributing to Frankie's crimes.  How did this family become so broken, and was this harsh punishment justified? Hildebrandt, the charismatic counselor, faces the same sentence. Did she truly care about the children she abused, or were her claims of love all part of her act? Son of Jailed YouTuber Ruby Franke Celebrates Her Imprisonment for Child Abuse

Son of Jailed YouTuber Ruby Franke Celebrates Her Imprisonment for Child Abuse

In a chilling revelation of the fractured dynamics within the Franke family, Chad Franke, the eldest son of disgraced YouTube personality Ruby Franke, expressed his delight at her imprisonment for child abuse. The 19-year-old's unbridled joy was captured in a now-deleted TikTok video, shared by his girlfriend, just days before Ruby and her former business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, were sentenced for the harrowing torture endured by Ruby's six children. The sentencing, meted out by a judge, mandated the terms of their plea agreement – four counts of one to 15 years, served consecutively, leading to a maximum sentence of 30 years due to Utah law. Despite the severity of her sentence, Ruby, aged 42, has chosen not to appeal her imprisonment, signaling a somber acceptance of her fate. Chad's apparent elation was palpable as he exited the courthouse following his estranged mother's sentencing. Ruby, in a poignant moment during the hearing, emotionally addressed her children, apologizing for the anguish she caused them. "I will never stop crying for hurting your tender souls. You’re so precious to me. I’m sorry," she expressed tearfully, acknowledging the deep pain inflicted upon her offspring. Prior to her arrest in August 2023, Ruby had been estranged from Chad and her eldest daughter, Shari, as a result of the abuse they endured. Concerns about the Franke children first arose after unsettling content surfaced in the family's YouTube videos, prompting a visit from Child Protective Services. Despite the visit, authorities closed the case, much to the dismay of concerned onlookers. Shari, Ruby's 20-year-old daughter, expressed relief at her mother's incarceration, underscoring the family's long-standing struggle for justice. Ruby's four minor children remain under state care, while her estranged husband seeks guardianship over their 16-year-old daughter, Abby. In a startling admission, Ruby, who had vehemently denied allegations of abuse, confessed to torturing her children in her plea agreement. Details of the plea painted a grim picture of the abuse endured by her offspring, including suffocation, physical restraints, and other forms of torment. As the Franke family grapples with the aftermath of Ruby's conviction and imprisonment, the harrowing saga sheds light on the enduring trauma inflicted by domestic abuse and the quest for justice in its wake. Amidst the somber proceedings, Chad's celebratory response serves as a stark reminder of the profound wounds left by familial betrayal and the long road to healing ahead. Ruby Franke & Jodi Hildebrandt Sentenced, Should Kevin Franke Also Be Charged?

In this riveting episode of "Hidden Killers," host Tony Brueski is joined by the insightful Bob Motta, a defense attorney and the host of "Defense Diaries," to dissect the complex and emotionally charged case of Ruby Frankie and Jodi Hildebrandt. Charged with the abuse of Frankie's children, both women have been sentenced to one to 15 years in prison for their heinous acts, with four consecutive sentences each. This episode promises to unravel the layers of this tragic story, providing a nuanced understanding of the legal and emotional aspects of the case. Motta, with his legal expertise, offers a critical perspective on the sentencing, discussing the broad range of potential years the accused could serve and the role of parole boards in determining the final sentence length. Motta weighs in on the complexities surrounding Franke's involvement, or lack thereof, in the abuse, and whether his actions, or inactions, could be deemed complicit. How LDS, End Of World Paranoia, Led Ruby Franke To Abuse Her Own Children

How LDS, End Of World Paranoia, Led Ruby Franke To Abuse Her Own Children

Is Ruby Frankie a calculating monster, or a victim of the same distorted beliefs that fueled her crimes? On this episode of "Hidden Killers", Tony Brueski and former defense attorney Lori Hellis analyze the sentencing of "Mormon mommy blogger" Ruby Frankie. She and her accomplice, Jody Hildebrandt, face a wide range of possible prison time (four to 60 years) with the decision ultimately resting with the parole board. Lori shares her prediction, noting that Hildebrandt, as a former therapist, likely bears greater responsibility in the eyes of the public.  They debate whether Ruby, as the mother, is in some ways more culpable for the horrific abuse of her own children than the outside influence of Hildebrandt. Lori's recent work on the Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell case offers chilling context. She highlights how Ruby's paranoia about hospitals and law enforcement aligns with deeply held beliefs among certain fringe groups within the LDS Church. Closing Question:  To what extent should Ruby Frankie's susceptibility to "doomsday prophecy" beliefs mitigate the severity of her crimes?   Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
