Chemotherapy would be analogous to putting a bomb on a building knowing there are bad guys (cancer) inside in the hopes of taking out all of the bad guys, but with the added risk of causing collateral damage. Even if it isn't shown on the scan, the bad guys are still there if you don't get them all. Relapse is undoubtedly a possibility in the future. Using the immune system and immunotherapy is a little more like using the Navy SEALs to go into the building and very specifically identify and eliminate those threats rather than the widespread destruction. If we're going to get to cures, it's going to be in the space of immunotherapy and rearming the immune system.  Our immune system, also known as our defense system, constantly guards against viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens, including cancer. Dendritic cells are a type of immune cell that runs the whole system. They are the generals of the immune system army.  [16:09] Why does the immune system lose its understanding? We tend to break down more frequently as we get older, our health tends to weaken, and we don't bounce back as quickly. That is a clear external reality, but there is also an inside reality. Mutations take longer to fix.  You need to have adequate movement each day. You need to exercise. When we are young, we are generally always on the move. As we age, we spend a lot more time sitting down and we don't try to exercise every day. Therefore, despite the immune system's potential strength, your body is no longer benefiting from it as quickly as it could.  [28:48] The First Cancer Treatment to Maximize the Immune System Immunocine Cancer Center send people a dozen or two dozen publications about dendritic cells and their role in cancer. This results in a slowed metabolism and a ramping up of defense mechanisms. -       The level of T3 hormone inside the cell plays a crucial role in regulating this shift towards defense mode. -       Dr. Balcavage introduces the concept of "thyroid allostasis," wherein thyroid hormone regulation differs from the typical pattern. He suggests that individuals with chronic health issues often exhibit this altered regulation, which may manifest as tissue hypothyroidism as an adaptive response. [10:00] Redefining Thyroid Recovery: Medication Dependency and Natural Healing -       Dr. Balcavage challenges the notion that the thyroid gland is unlikely to recover once someone is on thyroid medication. -       He believes that many people are prescribed medication prematurely and that for those who genuinely need it, there's often potential to reduce medication dosage over time. -       He observes that many of his patients can gradually reduce their thyroid medication dosage and even stop taking it altogether. -       Some individuals who have been on medication for years or even after a complete thyroidectomy have experienced a decrease in their medication needs. -       Dr. Balcavage emphasizes the body's remarkable capacity for healing and adaptation. [13:50] The Role of Thyroid Hormone in Mitochondrial Function and Adaptation to Stress -       When a cell perceives danger or a drop in energy, it initiates a response aimed at self-preservation. This includes stiffening the cell membrane to limit the transport of substances in and out of the cell. -       In response to perceived threats, cells adaptively down-regulate their manufacturing processes to minimize the production of substances that could benefit potential threats, such as amino acids and peptides. -       The thyroid hormone is crucial in driving mitochondrial function and is essential for converting food energy into cellular energy. However, continued stimulation of mitochondrial function during cellular stress can produce excessive free radicals. -       Excessive free radicals and limited antioxidant production due to decreased nutrient availability and down-regulated mitochondrial function can result in oxidative stress and cellular damage. To counteract this, the body adaptively down-regulates mitochondrial function and cellular activity, leading to symptoms such as fatigue and decreased energy levels. [21:00] Embracing Dietary Diversity: A Holistic Approach to Thyroid Health and Nutrition -       Dr. Balcavage emphasizes the importance of consuming a diverse range of whole foods, including animal- and plant-based sources. -       He suggests that there isn't necessarily one "best" food for thyroid health but instead encourages a balanced approach with various nutrient-rich foods. -       Dr. Balcavage contrasts allopathic thinking, which may focus on strict dietary restrictions based on specific food categories, with a more holistic approach that prioritizes whole foods and individual tolerance. -       He rejects labeling entire food groups as inherently harmful and instead encourages listening to one's body and consuming a balanced diet. [31:00] Thyroid Function Complexity: Ketogenic Diets and Optimal Thyroid Health -       Dr. Balcavage acknowledges the complexity of cellular function and challenges the notion that adopting a ketogenic diet necessarily leads to a lower T3 state. -       He suggests that cellular hypothyroidism and challenges with glucose regulation may impact the body's ability to burn fats efficiently. -       He questions the "optimal ranges" for thyroid hormones and suggests that individual variation and context should be considered when interpreting lab results. -       Dr. Balcavage emphasizes the importance of understanding thyroid function's nuances rather than strictly adhering to predetermined ranges. [38:40] An Approach to Stool Test Analysis and Gut Health Restoration -       Dr. Balcavage emphasizes the importance of interpreting stool test results individually rather than applying generalized labels such as "good" or "bad." -       Factors like an individual's overall health status and specific symptoms must be considered. -       He suggests elevated markers on stool tests, such as formic acid, may not always indicate an adverse health outcome. Contextual factors, such as an individual's weight status or dietary habits, must be considered to interpret these findings accurately. -       He advocates addressing underlying factors contributing to dysbiosis and immune dysfunction rather than solely focusing on symptom management. Factors such as stomach acid production, bile flow, pancreatic enzyme output, and overall immune function should be assessed and supported to restore gut health effectively. He praises wall sits for their simplicity and effectiveness, especially when combined with dumbbells for added resistance. He highlights T-bar rows as an excellent exercise for targeting the back muscles. [29:00] Workout Timing and Energy Management -       Obi recommends doing cardio after weight training rather than before. -       He explains that cardio before weight training can deplete energy levels and affect strength during the weightlifting session. However, if cardio must be done before weight training on the same day, he suggests allowing a couple of hours for recovery between the two workouts. -       While there's a common belief that fasted cardio promotes more significant fat loss, Obi highlights that studies have not consistently shown significant differences in fat loss between fasted and non-fasted cardio sessions. -       He suggests that if doing cardio in the morning on an empty stomach, it's beneficial to at least have a protein shake beforehand to sustain energy levels. The problem is when this map of reality is not consistent with your goals, then you need to evaluate your beliefs and then start to change them subconsciously. ·       The inductive mind is the creative mind that imprints information into the subconscious mind and looks for coincidences with the idea. ·       The inductive mind is the creative mind, and the subconscious mind is the set goal. The reticular activating system is an area in our mind that opens up when we focus on something, allowing us to see things that were not there before. [22:29] The Impact of Food Consumption on Our Conscious and Subconscious Mind. ·       Social influences on food intake refer to the impact that one or more persons have on the eating behavior of others, either direct (buying food) or indirect (learning from peer's behavior), either conscious (transfer of beliefs) or subconscious. ·       Observation and food consumption elicit positive affective responses, stimulating food intake. It revealed that the observation and consumption of food activate brain regions related to affective processing. ·       When we have enough energy, conscious deliberation enables us to make good decisions. The unconscious, on the other hand, seems to operate fine with low energy. [28:35] Fix Your Circadian Rhythm to Lose Weight ·       A nucleus is an area in the brain behind the eyes responsible for telling the time. When the sun releases blue light, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters, such as melatonin, which is the one that leads to going to sleep. Melatonin is produced during the morning and used later at night. ·       Light produces endorphins in the eyes, which synchronize the system to get BC and do physical exercise. This is due to the rhythm in cortisol that starts to go up whenever you see the first hours of the morning and the light, which is why we don't use fasting glucose anymore as a valid test. ·       When exposed to sunlight, you produce the vitamin D necessary to gain muscle mass. However, if you avoid sunlight, for whatever reason, you are more inclined to lose muscle mass due to the missing part of vitamin D.  ·   Vitamin D is an antioxidant. If you consume a lot of ultra-processed carbohydrates, you are using your firehose with carbohydrates instead of getting this vitamin, getting the processes to lower other general inflammation.   [40:08] Natural Light vs Artificial Light; How This Influences Weight Loss ·       When people take sunshine, their anxiety goes down, but when they are anxious, they crave sweets and salty foods. ·       When they are sleep deprived, they start their day with higher-than-normal glucose levels, and if they exercise, they will have a glucose spike. Insulin can remove the excess glucose and put them back on the level where they start with cravings. ·       Any lifestyle promoting insulin resistance will worsen matters, and food stimuli are only four to 5% of the brain's ability to change eating patterns. To move forward, starting with the water flow and sleeping at the correct time is important. ·       Light significantly influences our eating patterns and behavior, with 46% of neurons in our brain being stimulated by light. ·       The brain is programmed to adapt to longer days during the summertime and shorter days during the wintertime, which means that we need to prepare ourselves and accumulate energy in terms of fat being brought to our system. He’s an American medical doctor and Neurosurgical resident who, over a span of 20+ years, has researched the optimal nutrition for human performance and health. He claims that the majority of the so-called chronic illnesses are brought on by the food we consume and can be treated by switching to a diet tailored to our species.  About 23 years ago, when Dr Anthony was taking cancer biology at the University of Washington, they were learning about the roles of plants. Plants in general have about a million different defense chemicals that are used to poison and deter animals and insects from meeting them up. They need to be able to protect themselves because animals and insects are constantly attacking them.   They learned that quite a few plant toxins had already been demonstrated to be carcinogenic by researchers and that people had even recognized this fact. Brussels sprouts had 136 identified carcinogens, and then mushrooms had over 100. And then all of these different produce items that people would eat on a regular basis would have dozens and dozens of different carcinogens in them. That’s why Dr Anthony is on full carnivore. Controlling blood sugar levels and insulin resistance are issues with diabetes. Lowering your insulin is the treatment for that. How may insulin levels be decreased? You lessen the level of carbs in your body. When you stop eating carbohydrates, your body will produce the right amount of carbohydrates, which will cause your insulin levels to decrease.  Dr Anthony hasn’t heard of many people doing a Plant-based diet to cure type one diabetes but there are studies with ketogenic diets helping type one and type two diabetes. Some people with type one diabetes have radically changed how they manage their condition by adopting carnivorous or even ketogenic diets. They only need to provide a small amount of long-acting insulin, which will last them for the entire day, rather than many doses of the drug throughout the day. [18:52] All Plants Have Carcinogens! Why Plants Are Trying to Kill You There are undoubtedly things that have the potential to have hormetic effects. However, there is a claim that all of these plant toxins, literally millions of them, are not produced by plants for human benefit because we are not living in the Garden of Eden.  There's no actual evidence provided to say which chemicals are hormetic. At what dosage? Just get one leaf from your spinach or sage. That doesn't necessarily have all the same chemicals.  What kind of surroundings did it grow in? What kind of soil was it? What time was the pick? When must it be chosen as having to be freshman, it must be medicines. All of these objects' chemical makeups are altered by this. And so now all of a sudden, you don't know what dosage of digitalis you're getting. You can experience this beneficial hormetic effect in very small dosages. But it's in very controlled doses. [24:04] How can you tell whether something is working for or against you? You could follow an entire elimination diet. Do it for a month, then assess your feelings. After that, you introduce each thing one at a time. Some people are more resistant to these harmful chemicals and will have a better ability to detoxify these things.  [31:51] Eating The Right Animal Protein on the Carnivore Diet  Pick through exactly what you're eating. You can gain a small volume of muscle and bone and lose a large volume of fat and you'll gain weight, but your body composition will be different, and your clothes will fit differently.  [44:03] Heart rate variability: A sign to see if meat or plant toxic are good or bad for you? Nothing in meat will disrupt your heart's rhythm or bring on an arrhythmia. However, you might be hiding something. For example, your electrolytes are slightly out of balance, which is uncommon on a carnivorous diet. However, it may be claimed that when you switch to a ketogenic diet or a carnivore diet that is ketogenic from eating a lot of carbohydrates while your insulin is up, your levels of insulin suddenly go down.
