Going Deeper: Racial Battle Fatigue

Going Deeper: Racial Battle Fatigue

Dr. Aisha Rousseau is a mental health and rehabilitation clinician, researcher, and former

tenure-track professor. She earned a B.A. from Spelman College; a M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling

from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University; and a Ph.D. in Health-Related

Sciences from the School of Allied Health Professions at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Rousseau is the founder and owner of Applied Access, LLC., a consultant company focusing

on providing expert guidance pertaining to issues related to civil rights issues. Specifically, the company

focuses on matters of equity specific to disability, race and ethnicity.

As the first and to date, the only African American doctoral graduate from the Rehabilitation

Counseling Department at Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Rousseau strives to create space for

marginalized people to have a seat at tables to share their voices. She continues to write and conduct

research pertaining to the intersection of disability, gender and multicultural issues, as well as minority

women living with HIV/AIDS and has a number of published peer-reviewed publications and book

chapters. Dr. Rousseau continues to serve as an invited presenter and speaker at the state, national and

international levels. Aisha is also a proud member of SPIN (Sisterhood of Philanthropists Impacting

Needs), a philanthropic giving circle of Black women in the Denver community who leverage their

collective strengths in order to positively impact marginalized women and adolescent girls in their

communities.
