In Today’s episode, Stevie sits down with Italian Wine Ambassadors Elena Barattini, Erin DeMara, Juliana Colangelo and Fanny Breuil to recap the Gita Scolastica - VIA deep dive into the Marche wine region held last year, November 15th to 19th. This was followed by a quick tour of the city with aperitivo downtown, ending up having dinner based on white truffle, a fine and precious delicacy from the area, prepared by chef Elis Marchetti and his staff at the Istituto. Day 2 was dedicated to Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi right bank and Verdicchio di Matelica, both age-worthy white wines – don’t miss Erin DeMara’s complete summary. Juliana Colangelo sums up day 3 that was packed: wine tasting in the morning, digging deep into Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi left bank, where she found more consistency in the wines and more fruit concentration compared to the ones of the right bank of the Esino river; delicious lunch by Max Santoni cuoco at Sartarelli; more tastings in the afternoon dedicated to Lacrima di Morro d’Alba wines and producers at Filodivino, where dinner was served at the end of the tasting. Last but not least, on day 4 we drove to Conero DOCG area to get familiar with Montepulciano driven red wines from the region and also with the upcoming new denomination all about Rosè wines. The current farmer cooperative was formed in the 1978 and nowadays it boasts 180 vine growers and operates a vineyard area of around 100 hectares. PROVIMA cellar produce about 7.000 hectoliters of wine and about the 25% is bottled. From 2017 we have been producing organic wines. Together with his wife Carla, Sergio worked the land to create a brand and legacy that continue today with his children Nadia and Alberto. Sergio saw promise in Trebbiano di Lugana and planted roots in San Benedetto di Lugana where today, the family’s S. Cristina estate sits amidst 95 hectares of vineyard land. He later took over the Costalunga estate in the heart of Valpolicella Classica and began crafting wines using the local Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta varieties. Over the years, Zenato raised the standard for Valpolicella and today the family remains committed to crafting the highest quality wines the region has to offer. Today, he will be interviewing Rachele Tiezzi of Tiezzi Vini in Montalcino More about today’s winery The Tiezzi Wine Estate bears the name of its owner, Enzo Tiezzi, a well-known agronomist-oenologist from Montalcino, who has always worked in the winegrowing and oenology sector around Siena, particularly in Montalcino, where for years he has been director and oenology consultant for estates of outstanding fame, as well as being part of the executive management and Chairman of the Consortium for Brunello di Montalcino. In the 1980s, Mr Tiezzi decided to set up his own business and established the estate with the purchase of “Cerrino”, the first of the three areas, known as “poderi”, that make up the whole estate as it is today, followed, a few years later, by “Cigaleta”. His love of Montalcino’s history and his search for tradition led Enzo Tiezzi to annex the historical “Soccorso” land parcel to the estate. These regions combine the preserved ancient grapes, along with the present-day story of Italy as one of the most biodiverse countries for wine in the world. In her newly released book, Italian Wine - The History, Regions and Grapes of an Iconic Wine Country - Lindgren recounts these legendary stories and shares her love of Italian wine.
