with Jenny Kemp

Art Town is an upstate New York podcast hosted by Justin Baker. Each month, Baker engages in thoughtful conversations with regional artists and artisans, exploring their work, creative processes, and the lives they lead. This month’s guest is painter Jenny Kemp, whose work is rooted in a fascination with both the strangeness and beauty of natural growth systems. Her visual language has developed through the repetition and arrangement of linear structures—compositions that generate movement and invite symbolic thought. Kemp balances painterly precision with freehand spontaneity, weaving winding forms that nod to the curve as a motif for beauty. But within these patterns, she embraces irregularity—moments that shift direction and sprout new associations, as if the work itself holds agency. Jenny received her BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an MFA in Painting from the University at Albany. Insightful, intelligent, and grounded in the art world’s evolving narrative, Art Town is where regional voices find resonance.
