On this week’s episode of Foot On Yo’ Neck we are discussing how tattooing and body modification can be tools for liberation and self-definition and investigating on how colorism affects the realm of tattooing within the Black diaspora. Our guest this week is Tann Parker, who is the founder and creative behind the Ink The Diaspora collective. Tann’s pronouns are They/Them and they live and work in Brooklyn, NY. Tann has been practicing tattooing for a year, and was motivated to start hand poked tattooing after seeing the impact of Ink the Diaspora within the tattoo industry. Tann has been featured in articles from Allure, Tattoodo, r29unbothered, Studio (Museum) Magazine and Bustle. Tann is born and raised in Southern California, and they came east to attend college. They have their BFA in fashion design from Pratt Institute. Tann’s first visual expression is clothing and articulating their creativity, personality, humor and mood from their personal style. If you resonate with any part of our conversation and would like to further support Tann’s work, be sure to follow them on the Ink the Diaspora’s IG @inkthediaspora.
