Jack Carr is a former Navy SEAL who has transitioned over to the world of creative writing. He is known for his thriller novels, with the latest one called The Terminal List being adapted into its own TV show.

Jack talks about how he prepared for this new role his entire life. He grew up in the 80s getting inspired by the books he read and movies he watched. He has always been a student of war and he immersed himself in studying warfare and insurgencies to become the best author he can be today.

He shares how writing is his passion but his mission is to take care of his child with severe special needs, and how these two drivers give him purpose today. A Hollywood thriller author is basically an entrepreneur

Jack: "At first I looked at it as just writing and I thought I could go to a cabin in the mountains, write, send the book to New York, maybe do an interview or two, and then go back to writing."

"Maybe that was how it was years ago, but it certainly is not how it is today, unless you're an outlier. Let's just say for most people, it's probably not like that today. Now you have to do all those things that you thought a publishing house would do for you. Well, now you can do it yourself as an individual."

Jack: "That really gave me my mission leaving the SEAL teams, and I think it's important to identify your passion and your mission, and that passion is writing and creating, and my mission is taking care of my son and making sure that he is taken care of for a full life of 24/7 full-time care."
