The Chris Voss Show Podcast – Nature, Design, and Health: Explorations of a Landscape Architect by David Kamp
Nature, Design, and Health: Explorations of a Landscape Architect by David Kamp https://amzn.to/3KzabbW The internationally renowned landscape architect David Kamp, FASLA, has written a personal narrative of his innovative and influential landscape design philosophy and practice in Nature, Design, and Health. He traces the first stirrings of his interest in nature and design to his childhood in rural North Carolina. Kamp maintained his passion for landscape through his architectural studies at the University of Virginia, and these in turn helped prepare him for his first design project, the landscape for Australia’s grand new Parliament House complex in Canberra (1980–1988). In the mid-1990s, at a pivotal time in his personal life, Kamp volunteered to design one of the first gardens created specifically for individuals with HIV/AIDS, the Joel Schnaper Memorial Garden at the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center in East Harlem. The experience proved life-altering, and Kamp resolved to dedicate his practice to exploring the intimate web of relationships connecting design, nature, and modern healthcare. Throughout his career, Kamp has sought to put people of all ages in touch with nature, regardless of their capabilities―from children with autism spectrum disorder to elders with cognitive and physical challenges. He has also explored these ideas in the larger realm, where his plans have revitalized schools, parks, and urban waterfronts. By putting personal health on a continuum with environmental health, Kamp demonstrates that design partnering with nature can lead to more vibrant, resilient, and equitable communities.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – The Men Can’t Be Saved: A Novel by Ben Purkert
The Men Can’t Be Saved: A Novel by Ben Purkert https://amzn.to/47l2ekq A knockout debut novel that tackles a haunting question: What do our jobs do to our souls? Seth is a junior copywriter whose latest tagline just went viral. He’s the agency’s hottest new star, or at least he wants his coworker crush to think so. But while he’s busy drooling over his future corner office, the walls crumble around him. When his job lets him go, he can’t let go of his job. Unfortunately, one former colleague can’t let him go either: Robert “Moon” McCloone, a skeezy on-the-rise exec better suited to a frat house than a boardroom. Seth tries to forget Moon and rediscover his spiritual self; he studies Kabbalah with an Orthodox rabbi by day while popping illegal prescription pills by night. But with each misstep, Seth strays farther from salvation—though he might get there, if he could only get out of his own way. In his debut novel, Purkert incisively peels back the layers of the male ego, revealing what’s rotten and what might be redeemed. Brimming with wit, irreverence, and soul-searching, The Men Can’t Be Saved is a startlingly original examination of work, sex, addiction, religion, branding, and ourselves.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – The Perfection Trap: Embracing the Power of Good Enough by Thomas Curran
The Perfection Trap: Embracing the Power of Good Enough by Thomas Curran https://amzn.to/3YrwV3j In the bestselling tradition of Brené Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection, this illuminating book by an acclaimed professor at the London School of Economics explores how the pursuit of perfection can become a dangerous obsession that leads to burnout and depression—keeping us from achieving our goals. Today, burnout and depression are at record levels, driven by a combination of intense workplace competition, oppressively ubiquitous social media encouraging comparisons with others, the quest for elite credentials, and helicopter parenting. Society continually broadcasts the need to want more, and to be perfect. Gathering a wide range of contemporary evidence, Curran calls for both introspection and broader, societal change. He shows what we can do as individuals to resist the modern-day pressure to be perfect, and in so doing, win for ourselves a more purposeful and contented life. The Perfection Trap is for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by the soul-crushing need to not just compete but compete to a level beyond reason. In place of an ever-moving treadmill, it offers the relief of letting go to focus on what matters most. About the Author Thomas Curran is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science at the London School of Economics. He is a world leading expert on perfectionism. He has written for the Harvard Business Review, was featured in the New Scientist, and his work has been covered by publications including the Guardian, Telegraph, Wall Street Journal, and Ariana Huffington’s ‘Thrive Global’ campaign. In 2018, he gave a TEDMED talk entitled ‘Our Dangerous Obsession with Perfectionism is Getting Worse’.
