Albert Pierrepoint: John Christie, and the murder of Ethel Christie

At the conclusion of Timothy Evans' trial, his mother confronted John Christie, branding him a murderer to which his wife Ethel responded “Don’t you dare call my husband a murderer, he’s a good man.”
I wonder how much Ethel truly believed these words as she spoke them, whether deep down she had a gnawing suspicion that something was wrong, that just yards from her bedroom window lay the bodies of two women, and that within 3 years of Evans’ trial she too would die at her husbands hand.
