#408: Can We Have Different Beliefs and Still Be Friends? with William Reusch

Critical thinking is an essential skill in today's divided world and in this conversation with educator and podcaster, Will Reusch, we explore why it's more important than ever. Will shares insights from his years of teaching – discussing the challenges of encouraging students to think critically about complex topics instead of passively accepting dominant narratives. We dive into controversial subjects like left-right dynamics, Trans rights, and the role of social media in shaping perspectives – highlighting how echo chambers and ideological capture fracture communities. Will's mission to create safe spaces for open dialogue and his upcoming initiative, Patterdox, are central to fostering curiosity and empathy in our increasingly polarized society. William Reusch has taught high school social studies in Los Angeles for nearly two decades in several schools that served very diverse populations. He is a University of Austin Mill Institute Teacher Fellow, has worked with organizations like Heterodox Academy, FAIR (Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism), Civic Spirit, and others in his pursuit to bring critical thinking to the world of K-12 & high school education. He is the host of the Cylinder Radio podcast and has expanded his educational reach to utilize social media as a way to promote viewpoint diversity and intellectual inquiry. William is now the founder and lead teacher of the educational platform Patterdox to serve homeschool communities as well as offer supplemental education for all teenagers in the area of social science. —Will’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/willreusch —Will’s Website: https://williamreusch.com/ —Patterdox: https://patterdox.com/ —Will’s Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cylinder-radio/id1448662116 Resources From The Episode: —Julia Malott Podcast Episode: Transgender Politics and Gender Dysphoria: https://markgroves.com/episode/transgender-politics-and-gender-dysphoria-with-julia-malott/ —Harville and Helen's Podcast Episode: The Couple Who Changed How I Relate: Lessons from the Godparents of Love: https://markgroves.com/episode/the-couple-who-changed-how-i-relate-lessons-from-the-godparents-of-love/ —Harville and Helen's Book: Getting the Love You Want: A Guide for Couples: https://amzn.to/4bPqOuK —Michael Easter Podcast Episodes: From Scarcity to Intentionality: https://markgroves.com/episode/from-scarcity-to-intentionality-with-michael-easter/ & Why We Need Discomfort To Thrive: https://markgroves.com/episode/why-we-need-discomfort-to-thrive-with-michael-easter/ If you want to dive deeper into Mark’s content, search through every episode, find specific topics we’ve covered, and ask him questions, go to his Dexa page: https://dexa.ai/markgroves Themes: Critical Thinking Skills, Will Reusch Podcast, Viewpoint Diversity, Education Reform 2024, Overcoming Political Divides, Left vs Right Debate, Breaking Echo Chambers, Ideological Capture Explained, Open Dialogue in Education, Fostering Curiosity in Students, Social Media Echo Chambers, Political Polarization Solutions, Free Speech in Classrooms, Empathy in Education, Imago Dialogue Model, Patterdox Critical Thinking, Bridging Political Differences, Thought-Provoking Conversations, How to Encourage Critical Thinking This episode is sponsored by: —BON CHARGE: Use code MARKGROVES to save 15% at http://boncharge.com/MARKGROVES —Organifi: Use code CREATETHELOVE for 20% off sitewide at http://www.organifi.com/createthelove Contact us at podcast@markgroves.com for sponsor product support, questions, comments, or just to say hello!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
