The Human Style For Your Most Effectiveness, Efficiency & Energy w/ Erin Claire Jones

The Human Style For Your Most Effectiveness, Efficiency & Energy w/ Erin Claire Jones

Most everyone is aware of their personality style. You’ve likely taken one or five personality tests and quizzes where you answer a bunch of questions about yourself. What are your propensities and predispositions? I appreciate them all and have found some value from each in helping me understand and get some insight into myself. Yet I’ve also struggled with them being self-reporting. I find it hard to sometimes answer how I really am and how I want to be. And concern myself with possibly swaying answers with how I perceive myself that may not be very true, as we so often see ourselves with a skewed perception. About two years ago someone told me about human design. It’s a similar concept, but all you provide is your birthday, place of birth and time of birth. In my past I would have shunned this as some crazy, spiritual, hoodoo guru junk. However, I’ve taken the human design blueprint profile, paid for the big version and I’m now two years into finding great value for myself. So what do you do with something you find great resonance, value, and validity from, even though you don’t understand it? For me, I’m just using it. Of interest though is looking up the ones we habitually use in personal development and psychology that have become pillars of our culture, and where they originated. Look up, “Who invented….” and insert your favorite profile. The Enneagram was developed in 1915 by a philosopher. The Disc profile was developed in 1928 by a psychologist. Myers Briggs in 1940 by two women based on Carl Jung's teachings. The Type A or Be concept was in the 1950s by a cardiologist and then finally in 1987 we get the human design from what I’d say is a spiritualist who used to be an ad exec. None of them seem to be any scientifically based and proven method. So in this episode I’m back with Erin Claire Jones who is one of the world’s leading experts in Human Design. Through her coaching, content, and digital products, she has helped hundreds of thousands of people find value through human design. She has culminated her story and work in a new book, How Do You Choose?: A Human Design Guide to What's Best for You at Work, in Love, and in Life. My point in this podcast is to help guide you to your own personal growth and evolution, just as I pursue my own. As you’ll hear, I have and continue to find great value in this human design outline of how I function best. I’m blown away by it and I continue to hear the same testimony from friends of mine and people I respect who are checking it out. So…here you go. See what you think. Activity vs Result: How To Ensure Your Daily Joy & Fulfillment

Activity vs Result: How To Ensure Your Daily Joy & Fulfillment

My muse this week has been celebrity sports coach George Mumford who worked with the likes of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant. A key concept he worked with Kobe on was to “do the activity for the activity itself, not the result.” Friends, this has not been the guiding light of my life. I’ve historically looked at all I do as a means to an end. As a pro cyclist I often felt I was enduring 99 miles of racing just to get to the last mile where we went full tilt for the finish line. I unfortunately did a lot of my life like this. And what George coached Kobe in was to enjoy playing basketball. Enjoy it for himself. Taking shots and making baskets is part of playing, so of course do that, but see the glory in the overall playing of the game. And what I’ve realized is if you take this approach, you are guaranteed to win. In my work, if I enjoy the activity, I win every day. Whether I make a billion dollars or become the most influential podcaster in the human potential movement. If I enjoy being a father, I win everyday regardless of the trials of being a parent. If I enjoy my exercises and adventures and grocery shopping and cooking, then I’ve won already. Though as George knew and Kobe found out, the more you enjoy the overall activity, the better your perform as well and it’s what helped Kobe Bryant become one of the greatest players of all time. It’s a win-win proposition. Drive with me a moment to consider how you can do this in your day to day life. Right now. Got a comment or question about an episode? How To Transfer The Joy Of Vacation To Everyday Life

How To Transfer The Joy Of Vacation To Everyday Life

Vacation is generally about pleasure and fun and feeding your senses with whatever flavor of happiness you like. So let me begin by stating I’m not giving a Pollyanna look at everyday life and making it equal the happiness of vacation. But the joy underneath vacation time is something different. It’s not the waves or rides or food or drink but the expectation of good things. This is what I see in the most successful. Truly successful. People. In my recent show with celebrity sports coach George Mumford he asked, “How can we move from bracing for failure to waiting for fulfillment?” And it brings up our worldview. Our expectations. Are You Special? Do You Have Greatness In You? Maybe Not. And Maybe That Is Missing The Point

Are You Special? Do You Have Greatness In You? Maybe Not. And Maybe That Is Missing The Point

In the last show I had on celebrity athletic coach George Mumford who worked with the literal legends of the NBA, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal. His message in his book, Unlocked: Embrace Your Greatness, Find the Flow, Discover Success, is much about finding your true greatness. But are we all destined for greatness? Is it possible for all of us? Do we even want that? And then, what exactly is greatness? How do we define it? I’m not looking for a message that just makes you feel good and blows sunshine up your butt. I’m not the motivational speaker claiming everyone is limitless and can be a rockstar. Let’s take a sober look at the concept of so-called greatness and what we expect, believe in and and even want for ourselves. Got a comment or question about an episode? George Mumford: Find Greater Success By Learning To Just Be You & Be For You

George Mumford: Find Greater Success By Learning To Just Be You & Be For You

I grew up focused on performing. I’m an introvert who doesn’t care for the stage. The performing I’m talking about is being able and capable and winning and achieving and being limitless with no weaknesses. I found a lot of achievement, and heartache, by treating myself as a tool to achieve things. And I missed my potential. Being the fullness of me. In my quest, I’ve found George Mumford. George has worked with basketball legends Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and countless other NBA players, pro athletes in many sports, Olympians, executives, and artists. George doesn’t work with them to perform better. He works with them to be more of themselves. To be their authentic selves. To play for themselves and score without trying to score. To be the best expression of themselves. And from this, they found more success on the court, but more importantly, more resonance with their own soul. It’s a compelling offering. Find your best success by connecting with your heart. George wrote a book, Unlocked: Embrace Your Greatness, Find the Flow, Discover Success. Our Unresolved Nation: A Call-Out To Our So Called Traumas

Our Unresolved Nation: A Call-Out To Our So Called Traumas

What is driving many people. Most of us. Is a lack of resolving. It’s politically correct to validate everyone’s pain and call it trauma. So on one hand you have an adult who suffered from severe abuse as a child, and on the other hand an adult who is still suffering from not making the football team. One was life threatening and the other was ego threatening. Making that statement will sound minimizing and likely gain me some criticism, but my point is to elevate the issue of resolution. The difference we find between the two is only the individuals ability to resolve the hurt. I know a lot of grown adults, me included, who have not had what they feel are big traumas, but they exist in an unsettled spirit. Often frustrated. Dissatisfied. Angry or sad. And they don’t know why. I posit that the issue is not what happened to us and judging it’s validity, but simply, have we, can we, resolve it? Manly Emotionlessness Is For Cowards: How To Manage & Not Suppress

Manly Emotionlessness Is For Cowards: How To Manage & Not Suppress

“Don’t be controlled by your emotions.” Think about that statement. It says to not be controlled by your emotions. As a culture and specifically with men over the span of history, I believe we misinterpreted it in two ways; 1) don’t show your emotions, and 2) let’s go further and label it manly and masculine and strong to just not have emotions. So we disdain showing and being emotional. And women we’ve deemed are more emotional and we’ve used their propensity to express emotions as weakness. Another poor interpretation that has hurt us all. I spent most of my life validating myself for being calm under pressure. There are some acute moments of tragedy where this helped. Then there is the other 99% of the time where I now look back and see what a coward I’ve been. Make Peace With Pain Through An Emotional Cold Plunge

Make Peace With Pain Through An Emotional Cold Plunge

I spent most of my life ignorant of my emotions. Only to find that they were there, and in abundance. And I wasn’t ignoring them, I had just become a pro athlete in avoiding them. And I contorted and distorted my life and psyche around them as a result. As I found more emotional intelligence however, I just became aware of how terrified I was of my emotions.. It made no sense, but I couldn’t escape my irrational fear of emotions that, while they were not life threatening to me physiologically, they seemed to be life threatening to me psychologically. I’ve been fervently at work on this, but just two weeks ago I received a great gift from a guest on the show. I’m very familiar with cold plunging. Immersing yourself in frigid water. And I’ve learned how to make peace with it. It’s not comfortable, but I’ve learned how to find comfort in myself, even as my skin rebels at the cold water. Emotional cold plunging is the same and I want to give this gift to you. Drive with me a moment.
