Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy this new episode of The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we examine movies from established movie stars that have flopped at the box office, been forgotten by time, or remain hidden gems. These aren’t the films that made them famous or kept them famous. These are the other ones. From strong early work in masterpieces like Boyz n The Hood and Malcolm X to her recent work in Netflix’s Otherhood and Fox’s television show 9-1-1, Angela Bassett has done it all. Here we focus on Kathryn Bigelow’s Strange Days, Wes Craven’s Vampire in Brooklyn, Walter Hill (er Thomas Lee)’s Supernova and John Sayles’ Sunshine State. It’s an eclectic foursome that reflects Bassett’s dynamic range.
