Lessons In Honesty From A Fried Lambo - EP 210

Today, I'm sharing a story about my brand-new Lamborghini Revuelto and how a small mistake turned into a massive lesson in trust, leadership, and communication. I took the car to a trusted shop for some paint protection film, and while it sat there, the battery died. No big deal, right? But instead of calling me or Lamborghini, they tried to fix it themselves… and jumped it using the wrong port. What followed was a series of bad decisions, a fried battery system, and worst of all, no one told me the truth until I found out the hard way.

This wasn't just a car issue; it was a communication breakdown. I don't think they were trying to be shady. I think they were trying to protect me from bad news. But in doing so, they made the situation worse and broke trust. And that's the point. If you work with high-level people, honesty and speed matter more than perfection. Mistakes won't get you fired. Covering them up will. Leaders can't fix what they don't know. And when you wait too long to speak up, that silence becomes more damaging than the problem itself.

If you're a leader, listen closely: you train your team with your reactions. If your people are afraid to be honest, you've trained them to lie. That's not leadership, it's fear. On the other hand, when someone brings you a problem and a plan, and you respond with calmness and support, that's how you build loyalty and a strong culture. The test of any team or business isn't whether people make mistakes, it's whether they trust you enough to tell you when they do. Honesty might be expensive, but dishonesty will cost you everything.
