John Smith: Assault (the impact of a hate inspired violent assault in Dublin)

ASSAULT - a radio documentary produced by John Smith BA Journalism (2017) A fist can do more than just physical damage. So, how do you heal both the visible and invisible injuries from an assault? Three victims detail their personal stories, explaining how they overcame their traumatic experiences and the effects left with them. Being assaulted many years ago had a big impact on my life and has made me into the person I am today. Although the incident occurred many years ago, it’s not something that you forget easily, and many people never truly let go of those memories. The assault left a lasting impression on me and I wanted to share my story, as well as the stories of others, to highlight what an assault can do to a person and to let people who may still be recovering from an assault know that they’re not alone. As well as that, I hoped to inform people what to do if someone they knew ended up in a similar situation. If you have been a victim of an assault, contact the Crime Victim Helpline : Text 085 133 7711 or call 116006 Presented and Produced by John Smith. A School of Media Production for TU Dublin.
