Women Who Ruled the World

Women Who Ruled the World

In today’s Historian Chat, I’m talking about Elizabeth Norton’s book The Women Who Ruled the World. Norton takes us across centuries to highlight queens and empresses who rose above expectation and left their mark on history. From ancient rulers to Tudor monarchs, this book is a fascinating look at leadership, power, and the women who wielded it.

Queen Consorts, the Grey Sisters and Lady Cromwell

Queen Consorts, the Grey Sisters and Lady Cromwell

When we began planning episode 103, I don't think we imagined that it would be a themed episode. This episode we were fortunate enough to have both Elizabeth Norton and Leanda de Lisle on to talk about women, or women near the throne. Elizabeth chats with me about queen consorts (oh the fun!), and Leanda is asked YOUR submitted questions on the Grey sisters. Then I teach you a bit about Elizabeth Seymour (sister to Queen Jane) in A Brief History.   And, as a treat to all listeners, everyone gets access to Elizabeth Norton's full answers in "IF I Made You Choose" this episode! As patrons you will now (after this episode) receive early access to the answers prior to the public.   Credits:   Written by: Rebecca Larson & Stephanie Stohrer Voiced by: Rebecca Larson, Stephanie Stohrer, Elizabeth Norton & Leanda de Lisle Produced by: Rebecca Larson Imaging by: Troy Larson   Music Credits: Pavana alla veneziana by Paul O'Dette, Composed by Joan Ambrosio Dalza   Resources: TudorsDynasty.com TudorsDynastyPodcast.com YouTube.com/TudorsDynasty Patreon.com/TudorsDynasty Merch Shop

Wars of the Roses, Katherine of Aragon and Bess of Hardwick

Wars of the Roses, Katherine of Aragon and Bess of Hardwick

The Wars of the Roses, or the Cousins Wars, were one of the most deadly and tumultuous times in English history, resulting in the death of many nobles. Today, Rachael Dickzen and I talk about some of the key players of the time: Henry VI, Edward IV, the Kingmaker, and Richard, Duke of York. We also discuss the women of the Wars of the Roses, including Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort and Margaret of Anjou. We take a look at the family tree of Edward III and how that affected history, and we also touch base on sanctuary and quick executions.   Then historian and author Heather Darsie joins us again for Ask the Expert. Today’s topic is Katherine of Aragon (and her family), and we ask Heather the questions you submitted on social media. You’re really going to enjoy this one as Heather once again shatters our idea of what actually happened between the sheets with Katherine and Arthur Tudor. Lastly, Steph joins us again to share with you the story of the amazing Bess of Hardwick - you won’t want to miss this episode….listen in segments if you need to, but be sure to listen to it all.   Wars of the Roses: Open - 39:37 Katherine of Aragon: 39:38 - 1:08:34 Bess of Hardwick: 1:08:35 - 1:18:30 -- Credits: Written by: Rebecca Larson & Stephanie Stohrer Voiced by: Rebecca Larson, Stephanie Stohrer, Rachael Dickzen & Heather R. Howards, Seymours & Sir William Sharington

Howards, Seymours & Sir William Sharington

Welcome to episode 101! This episode we have Dr Kirsten Claiden-Yardley here to chat about the Howard family, but in particular the 2nd Duke of Norfolk. Then, team member Steph asks me about the Seymour family in this installment of Ask the Expert. That's where I answer your social media supplied questions about my favorite family. Lastly, Steph steps in and also handles A Brief History this episode - you won't even notice it's not me. A special thanks to Steph, by the way...this episode would not have been possible without her help getting it here. Started a new job two weeks ago and have little time to do podcast stuff while I'm still training. Steph has been a life saver, so please give her some love!   See Show Notes for all the Details   Credits: Written by: Rebecca Larson (& Stephanie Stohrer) Voiced by: Rebecca Larson, Stephanie Stohrer & Dr Kirsten Claiden-Yardley Produced by: Rebecca Larson Imaging by: Troy Larson Music Credits: Music: Pavana alla veneziana by Paul O'Dette, Composed by Joan Ambrosio Dalza Resources: TudorsDynasty.com TudorsDynastyPodcast.com YouTube.com/TudorsDynasty Patreon.com/TudorsDynasty

NEW SEASON: Alison Weir, Matthew Lewis and a Madwoman

Welcome to the new season!!   I wanted to start of the new season with a bang, and so I was able to line up best-selling author and historian Alison Weir. Alison stops by to chat about Katheryn Howard, the Tudors....and of course we talk about Thomas Seymour.   The second segment of the show is called 'Ask the Expert'.
