When is the next recession?

The next recession — when it will hit, what will trigger it — is top of mind for many investors now that the U.S. expansion is entering its 10th year. Capital Group economists Jared Franz and Darrell Spence and equity portfolio manager Joyce Gordon take an in-depth look at recessions and offer their perspectives on what investors can do to prepare for the next one.

Economist Jared Franz covers the U.S. and Latin America. He has 13 years of investment experience, four with Capital Group. Prior to joining Capital, Jared was head of international macroeconomic research at Hartford Investment Management Company and an international and U.S. economist at T. Rowe Price. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Illinois and a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University.

Equity portfolio manager Joyce Gordon is an equity portfolio manager with 38 years of investment experience. She has been with Capital Group for 43 years. She previously covered thrifts, banking and paper & forest products companies as an investment analyst. She holds an MBA and a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California.

Economist Darrell Spence is a research director with 26 years of investment industry experience, all with Capital Group. He is a CFA charterholder and earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Occidental College.
