Hinterkaifeckin murhat kuuluvat Saksan tunnetuimpien mysteerien joukkoon. Vuonna 1922 joku murhasi Hinterkaifeckin maatilalla asuneen perheen sekä perheen palkkaaman piian. Vuosina 2001-2005 kaksi naista kuoli samanlaisen henkirikoksen uhrina melko lähellä toisiaan - joku oli tunkeutunut naisten kotiin ja puukottanut heitä lukuisia kertoja. Vuonna 2008 kolmas nainen joutui samanlaisen hyökkäyksen kohteeksi, mutta selvisi hyökkäyksestä hengissä. DNA- tutkimukset veivät poliisit Michael Gargiulon jäljille. Tutkimusten perusteella alkoi vaikuttaa vaikutaa siltä, että Michael oli ehkä tappanut ensimmäisen uhrinsa jo vuosia sitten, ollessaan vielä teini-ikäinen. Marraskuussa 2010 nelihenkisen Panin perheen kotiin hyökkäsi joukko aseistettuja murtovarkaita. Valitettavasti taloon tunkeutuneet miehet eivät tyytyneet pelkkään rahaan, vaan hyökkäys vaati myös kuolonuhreja. Kun poliisit alkoivat tutkimaan tapausta, he huomasivat nopeasti että se ei vaikuttanut tyypilliseltä murtovarkaudelta. Miksi kaikkia arvoesineitä ei oltu viety? Entä miksi yksi hyökkäyksen silminnäkijöistä jätettiin eloon? Poliisien tutkimusten jälkeen selvisi, että Panin perhe ei ollut niin täydellinen, kuin ulkopuoliset olivat luulleet.
