He died on April 7, 2022 at the age of 35, survived by me and our two young sons, Jackson (age 4) and Leo (7 months, who was born 3 months after Ryan’s accident). My memoir is an unapologetic glimpse into the world of grief and trauma as I lived it for 6 arduous months, navigating my late husband’s potential recovery, and then hospice when we knew he would not recover, and finally his death and the aftermath. I want others going through similar hardships to feel seen. It is also a way to give others who have not experienced profound grief or trauma, a way to understand what it is actually like, and to better serve and show up for others who are going through the worst days of their lives. My goal is to inspire others to live their best lives in the aftermath of tragedy and seemingly impossible circumstances. By sharing my story and the skills I have learned through my experiences, I hope to teach others how to transform themselves for the better and thrive in and through grief, and cultivate their own hero's story.
