EP298: Moira Davies, Co-owner at The Drop Off Cafe - Why a side hustle is vital

Moira Davies, co-owner of The Drop Off, a cafe, shared office and event space in Lancashire. Moira shares how her parents transformed a derelict building into a vibrant, multi use space that now includes shops, a café, and office areas. The café is coming up to their 10 years mark.

They discuss how workspaces have evolved, with many people now working remotely, in hybrid setups or returning to offices. Lysha also talks about her own business journey, which includes running a café, coworking space, event venue, and social media content business. She started at 16 by renovating and selling furniture, then expanded into content creation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, Moira manages content for several clients and uses an AI scheduling tool called Motion to stay organised.

She emphasises the importance of supporting local food businesses and valuing simple, locally sourced meals. In recruitment, Lysha focuses on flexibility, creativity and autonomy, moving away from rigid traditional models. She also encourages diverse hiring, especially for people with interests in sports and other hobbies that foster teamwork and growth.

Lysha highlights the importance of supporting introverts and young professionals in the workplace, especially post pandemic. Moira advocates for patience, flexibility and creating safe environments for employees to grow. Finally, she stresses that sticking with a role longer can often lead to greater rewards, countering the trend of frequent job hopping.

Moira isn't on LinkedIn but feel free to follow The Drop Off cafe on all platforms.
