Last Jedi Backlash, Trailer Reactions, Video Stores, Narcos, Man of Steel 2 & More

On the December 19, 2017 episode of /Film Daily, Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film writers Hoai-Tran Bui and Chris Evangelista to discuss the latest news, including: the Alamo Drafhouse launching a video store, Narcos gets new lead actors, Man of Steel sequel details, Star Wars: The Last Jedi backlash, Paramount sets new release dates and how All The Money In The World erased Kevin Spacey. And we’ll give reactions to the new trailers for Mortal Engines, Greatest Showman, Ocean’s 8, and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). Feedback: Shane D writes in: Dear /FilmDaily Crew, I love the show! Recently on a /FilmDaily episode, you were all discussing Redbox rental stats. The crew, HT in particular, was very disappointed in what seemed like America's "basic" choices. As an avid listener and Redbox user, I'd argue that these numbers are totally misrepresenting Amercia's film prowess as a whole. My wife and I, for instance, will quickly (maybe frantically) check out the first few screens of Redbox on a busy weeknight trip to the supermarket and will frequently grab a dumb comedy or flashy action block buster. That doesn't mean, however, that we're not also itching to watch The Big Sick or hoping to finally finish The Killing of a Sacred Deer. It's simply a matter of a small selection that's aimed to simply entertain. I'd compare it to the Supermarket magazine impulse section in the check out line. Again, my wife might grab a Cosmo or even a Reader's Digest if funny enough, but she also has her Atlantic and The New Yorker subscription issues waiting for her at home. I think we seek out those great, artsy, interesting movies on other platforms, other venues. When we browse Redbox, we're asking for flash or fluff...we're in the mood for basic. I think that it's part of what makes America charming, we're very basic and very interesting; very dumb and very smart, very blockbuster and very indy, all at the same time. Just my thoughts, love the show. Have any geeky thoughts on this news that we might not have addressed on the podcast? On the February 11, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film news writer Ryan Scott to discuss the latest film and tv news, including Batman box office tracking, Oscars relevancy, the return of MoviePass and Jurassic World Dominion. Opening Banter: It’s the Weekend!! In The News: Ryan: The Batman Box Office Is Tracking For An $80 Million-Plus Opening WeekendMention: You Can Get Bat-Tickets For The Batman Right Now On The Bat-Web Mention: New The Batman Trailer Is Full Of New Bat-Footage  Is $80 million low for Batman? Lets look at some comps Peter (og Shania): Seth Rogen Doesn't Understand Why Anyone Cares About The Oscars"I don't get why movie people care so much if other people care what awards we give ourselves. To me, maybe people just don't care. I don't care who wins the automobile awards. No other industry expects everyone to care about what awards they shower upon themselves. Maybe people just don't care. Maybe they did for a while and they stopped caring. And why should they?" Does he have a point? Why are less people caring now vs. before? Ryan (og Lex): MoviePass, Your Favorite Unsustainable Movie Company, Is Relaunching This SummerThe new program will work on a credits system that would allow users to use credits to purchase movie tickets for both themselves and a guest. Those credits will roll over month to month if they don't get used. "People didn't see MoviePass as a discount, they saw it as a discovery tool," ceo Stacey Spikes said at the press conference, implying that MoviePass was seen as a curator of film charcuterie instead of what it really was: a purveyor of dirt-cheap movie access. Additionally, Spikes introduced an initiative for users where you can watch ads to earn free credits to use toward movie tickets. Your phone camera will literally track your eyeballs to make sure you watch the complete ad — and if you look away, the ad will pause. "What it does is it basically creates a transaction between you and the brand," Spikes explained.  Will this work? Spoiler Discussion: The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 7 “In The Name of Honor”

On the February 9, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film editor Brad Oman and Star Wars expert Bryan Young to have a spoiler-filled discussion about The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 7 “In The Name of Honor”.   In The News:  Obi-Wan Kenobi Premiere Date Set For May On Disney+   In The Spoiler Room:  The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 7 “In The Name of Honor” FeedbackDanielle: Why Luke Skywalker's Voice Sounds So Weird In The Book Of Boba Fett The Wookieepedia article since been renamed "Unidentified crest". I guess leaving the door open that perhaps it's an organization that Barriss Offee belonged to but not her own personal crest. Is it Ajan Kloss | StarWars.com Nate from Grand Rapids, Michigan: “Do you think Mayor Mok Shaiz’s name is an homage to the old McDonalds mascot “Mayor McCheese”? Their mouth’s are also kind of similar.” Matthew f writes in: “On the podcast you asked why Ahsoka went to see Luke. I’m speculating that it’s the hunt for Thrawn that led Ahsoka there. I think Ahsoka has figured out that Gideon is working for Thrawn and has heard that Gideon is now being held by the New Republic. Through this she finds out about Gideon capturing and holding onto Grogu. So she seeks out Grogu to “talk” (however she communicates with him) about his time on Gideon's light cruiser to help put together pieces about Thrawn. Thrawn’s involvement with cloning is hinted at the end of the Bad Batch. As the Bad Batch ends with the Empire packing up and moving all the cloning equipment and scientists from Kamino to a large base inside a mountain. The mountain base was later confirmed by StarWars.com as Mount Tantiss, which is from Timothy Zahn’s original Thrawn Trilogy where Thrawn was conducting cloning experiments. I think Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are taking elements from Zahn’s story and tying it together with Grogu. I’m hoping that we find out more about Ahsoka’s visit to Luke in her own show.“ Gave T writes in “Grogu is a descendant of Yoda! Why would 3 Jedi’s be standing to protect him, when all the other young Padawan’s be left alone in a room. Only to be found by Vader. Grogu is farther along than we all think. … I think Grogu is going to be a huge part of the future of Star Wars.” Tony writes in “Love the podcast. The last two episodes being Mando episodes was such a CREATIVE way to SURPRISE a always speculating Star Wars fanbase! I'm really surprised at the reaction online as if this was some kind of strange error.  "Does not compute."  Brain bursting completely subversive storytelling!  I can imagine the creators being so excited to: stupefy the AUDIENCE. What a lovely surprise!” Brief reactionsBryan’s Review: The Book Of Boba Fett Comes To A Dizzying Conclusion The Book Of Boba Fett Should Have Been The Mandalorian Season 3 BreakdownThe Mandalorian Vs.
