This week’s main episode features an interview with returning guest, Liam Porter, the YouTube historian who archived the videos from Plymouth shooter’s Jake Davison YouTube channel and discussed those with me following the incident. His own YouTube channel includes fantastically smart, informative, and entertaining documentaries about topics that will surely intrigue you all, and we’ll be discussing “Munted, Random” a story about #GamerGate. Today’s episode finally takes on the very complicated case of the mass shooting on December 6th, 1989 at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. It is often considered the first “incel shooting” despite predating the term by 25 years. The perpetrator, Marc Lepine left a manifesto and killed 14 female college students, one of whom was Anne-Marie Edward, the cousin of today’s guest, Jean-Marc Dalphond (@JMDalphond). Today’s episode is a follow-up to the topic we started discussing last week, that first came my way via a poignant message from a listener named Mark (@us3rn8m3_t8k3n) a self-described currycel, who suggested we further explore the role that childhood abuse, particularly in Asian cultures, might play for incels in the west. Mark agreed to get on a call and discuss these issues himself, and we had one of the most raw, honest, and insightful conversations about this theme which is so ubiquitous in the incelosphere. Reminder: a currycel is an incel of South Asian decent, while a ricecel is one of East Asian descent. As a reminder, these terms aren’t intended to be, nor considered offensive, just playfully descriptive. Today’s guest is a 23 year-old incel from New Zealand, who reached out a couple months back with a YouTube link to a beautiful film he made about his life as an incel, which he called “A Shallow Perception of Me.” The film is about a lonely young man who sinks deeper into depression as he indulges his fixation with a young Russian woman who became something of an unwilling porn star after her nudes were leaked. The woman, Alina, is a real person, by the way. It is composed of stark shots of David (@goooply), the filmmaker, listlessly inhabiting his bedroom, eating, drinking, smoking, sleeping, and consuming content, along with the content he consumes. And the film is really, really good. We had a great chat about inceldom, and internet addiction, and content creation and the life of an artist.
